So much work to do...so much stuff to put together. Business and personal lives are jam-packed with stuff to do. Let's hope things start calming down soon. Let's also hope things are nice, calm and fun for you guys lately! Enjoy the free time for me! See you in a few, short hours.
We've heard rumblings of a Sonic movie for a long time now. We're talking about a real Hollywood movie. Something that's going to go out in thousands of theaters across the world. It seems like this project has been shrouded in a ton of mystery ever since SEGA first mentioned it. That might have something to do with SEGA not really giving us any info to go on! At least today we got a confirmation that the project is still coming and is planned for release in 2018.
The only real tidbit of information we have to go on comes from the nature of the project. This Sonic movie is going to be a mix of live-action and computer animated content. When you think about that just based on visuals alone, you'd expect something along the lines of the Garfield or Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. I'm not talking about the quality of those films, but their mixing of real-life actors/scenery with a few computer animated characters.
It's this idea alone that is giving people a lot of cause for concern. Just how in the world are SEGA/Sony going to team to bring us a real-life/animated Sonic movie that is going to make us happy? I guess you could step back from that and wonder how they are going to make fans happy in general, but that's besides the point. Is there really a story that can be told that makes marrying an animated Sonic with the real world make sense? I honestly don't know the answer to that, but I sure hope Sonic/SEGA do.
When I picture a Sonic movie, I think of a fully animated feature. That could be hand-drawn or computer generated. I don't mind either way, but I think a fully animated feature really fits the nature of the character/universe better. I do realize that Sonic games have featured locations that were inspired by real-life, but when you talk about that being put into a movie, I just don't get excited by it. I'll certainly remain open-minded to the idea and look forward to seeing what the project looks like, but right now I'm feeling a bit unsure.
What do you think of the plans for an animated/live-action Sonic movie? Do you envision something that plays out in an awesome way, or is this going to end up being yet another cheesy video game movie?
