EGM says Revolution graphics are "barely better than those on GameCube"

Electronic Gaming Monthly has a little story in their most recent issue that talks of the Revolution’s graphical prowess. Keep in mind, this little blurb of “information” is coming from EGM’s Rumor Mill section. The reporter in the article is referred to as “The Q”

The Q hates being the bearer of bad news, but it comes with the territory (at least that's what the rumormonger handbook says). During a recent powwow with a few well-known gamemakers, some discussed their hands-on time with early Revolution development kits. OK, here it goes: According to those fellas, the graphics that Nintendo's next-gen system can produce are barely better than those on GameCube.

This statement directly opposes the one recently released from Nintendo stating that there should be no discernable difference between what the Revolution can do graphically when compared to Xbox360 and PS3. Who are we to believe here? Maybe Nintendo hasn’t show us screenshots yet because there isn’t much of a graphical difference between Cube and Revolution (is that such a bad thing?) Perhaps this EGM Rumor Mill entry is just that, a rumor with no proof to back it.

The one thing I think is safe to say is that by posting this EGM has fueled the already blazing console wars even before the next two entries hit the markets. EGM is definitely aware of Nintendo’s situation in the public eye, and how they are perceived. One has to wonder if EGM posted this rumor on purpose just to give some more firewood to the PS3/Xbox360 fanboys.

As has been said many a time on this site and in our podcasts, the only way we will ever find out the truth is to wait and see.

*I will pick up EGM tomorrow (along with Game Informer) to follow up on a few recent stories, provided I can find the magazines*

Are these graphics to get upset about?
