We got your CPU talk, GPU talk, clocking rate talk, pricepoint talk, disc media capacity, and just some thoughts from developers. Keep in mind that ALL these quotes are from various third party developers that have asked to remain anonymous.

IGN speculating on Revolution’s Broadway CPU and Hollywood GPU…

Revolution’s Broadway CPU, developed by IBM, is an extension of the Gekko CPU in GameCube, according to official Nintendo documentation passed to us by software houses. The Hollywood GPU, meanwhile, is believed to be an extension of the Flipper GPU in GameCube. Since developers have not gone hands-on with the GPU, they can only go on Nintendo documentation, which is limited.

On the topic of clock rates and power…

“Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you’re done.”

Another company’s take…

“The CPU is the same as Gekko with one and a half to two times the performance and improved caching,” said a source. “Our guys experimented with it and think they’ll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube.”

IGN says they know Revolution disc capacity…

In fact, Revolution discs can store 4.7GBs of data on a single layer or 8.5GBs when double-layered on a single-side. This is a massive jump from the 1.5GB capacity of GameCube discs and more than enough storage capacity for any non-high-definition game.

Revolution pricepoint according to all third parties contacted…

Every developer was in agreement that Revolution should launch with a price tag of $149 or lower. Some speculated that based on the tech, a $99 price point would not be out of the question.

Will graphical power push away buyers, or will new types of gameplay experiences bring more in? According to another third party…

“It’s a gamble for the Big N. It’s not about horsepower for them — it’s about innovation and gameplay.”

While some may be dissapointed with the “almost” confirmation of the Revolution’s power, others may be more excited then ever at the thought of new gameplay ideas, and an extremely low price point. After reading IGN’s article, I find myself REALLY REALLY excited for the Revolution, even moreso then before. The thing is, I cannot pinpoint what in this article made my excitement level rise.

Is it the thought of Nintendo doing their own thing, and really bringing us a new way to experience games? Perhaps just the release of some new hardcore Revolution news has perked my interest. It has been awhile since we had some truly new and fresh information regarding Revolution. What do you guys think…are you more or less excited for the Revolution after the news from the past two days? Make sure to leave some comments, I am interested to hear what you all think.
