A portion of a C3 interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi...
C3: If you make ‘The Last Story 2’ would you prefer to make a direct sequel that connects to the first game’s story, or would you follow the Final Fantasy route of making a new story for each sequel?
Sakaguchi-san: I have no plans for making a sequel at the moment, so I haven’t really thought about any ideas for such a game. If I were to make a sequel, though, I think that any direction could be possible. I feel that it might also be fun for it to be a completely online game!

...completely online? I don't like the sound of that :/
Adam Riley: Have you decided that a turn-based battle system is no longer suitable for modern RPGs?
Sakaguchi-san: I think that turn-based battle systems have their own attraction, and I think that there’s still a lot of potential to expand on. However, it is the truth that there were many users who played Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey felt that turn-based systems were becoming out-dated. Such feedback became the catalyst for creating a completely new battle system for The Last Story.
Why would he decide that when this gen hes made more turn based rpgs than not?
a completely online game wont be fun
Last Story MMO confirmed?!
no
"completely online"
Lolnope
no need for the abrupt reply. the lol face shows i was joking, as alot of people instantly assume things when a developer says something might be cool
No online CONFIRMED! xD
Disregarding the whole online/offline deal, think about this for a moment.
"The Last Story II"? At least Final Fantasy doesn't have an article in front of it: The Last Story implies that it is THE Last Story. It's tough for a title to have more awkwardly named sequels than anything beginning in "Final", but "The Last Story II" would top them all. And Final Fantasy has the excuse that they're in separate universes.
I guess it could be something like "Beyond the Last Story", but that would just make the other story not the last one. Maybe "We Found Another Story"?
completely... online... game...?
Oh well at least that will stop me from getting hyped.
I'd like to see a Lost Odyssey sequel tbh.
I think Sakaguchi needs to cater to his fans instead of listening to BS from the whiners who won't buy his games anyway regardless of what battle system. People are always complaining about one thing or another these days so trying to please everyone isn't the way to go. Not saying TLS isn't great, mind you. I just don't think he should completely abandon the turn-based genre. Would be great if he could make both so that things could be changed up every now and then. I haven't tried Blue Dragon yet but I love Lost Odyssey, turn-based battle system 'n all.
