Rayman Legends' leaked trailer leads to Wii U controller mysteries

Two images from the leaked Rayman Legends trailer. Both of them show features on the Wii U controller that weren't present at E3. Looks like there's going to be a bit more to the controller than we first thought! I'm sure we'll learn more about these features at E3. Boy, I bet Nintendo is very unhappy with Ubisoft right now!

Seems like a camera to me the other thing looks like a way to charge the controller. Either that or a way to stream content with the current dev kits

Hmm, maybe that black splotch on the back is a large-focus IR Camera for pointer support. Would make games better, what with having a real pointer there instead of having to deal with relative center.

Would it need an IR splotch that big though? I think the smaller one is that, and I have no clue what the bigger one is...

Maybe a camera?

if the ds, 3ds and vita have front and back facing cameras, why should the WiiU be left behind? ;)

@LegendofSantiago
@HUELEN10

Like the gamexplain article suggested it could be both of those things!

I'm certain it's at least a camera, but if there's IR support as well...that's a plus!

EDIT: It DOES however seem a bit off center which would be odd for an outward facing camera. It could be just the angle at which the picture is taken though

I hope the person responsible for this doesn't get fired..it's hard out there right now..how is that person going to afford a WiiU?

Btw didn't we already now it had the IR thingy?

This is such an exciting time to be Nintendo gamer when I'm getting giddy over small details like this!

Most likely a camera to take video as well as pictures. It would make AR games possible on the controller. It could also be IR tech, perhaps to be used in conjunction with tv sets, perhaps making the Wii U controller a universal remote of sorts.

This controller is really proving to be the swiss army knife of controllers. At this rate I gotta wonder if haptic feedback tech is even necessary.

I'm not that tech savvy to make much of this, I just hope that Nintendo doesn't come up with controller revisions soon after launch.

the big one is visible light blocking plastic covering a ir camera, I think we all knew this had to be in there, it makes holding it up to the tv just that much more accurate.

Hmmm...I'm kinda curious as to how the Wii U controller will be recharged if batteries are running low.

@Barto
Yeah, why is the black bar off-center? Good point to bring up.

@Conrad
IT'S OFFICIAL: THE WII U CONTROLLER IS REVOLUTIONARY FOR SOLVING WORLD HUNGER PROBLEMS. CUE THE F**KING OF HATERS.

Still hoping they do something really cool with this controller that isn't just "DS controls but on television" but no biggie.

Not sure what they are and I'm not gonna guess. I'll wait till E3 to find out.

Uh, duh? Infrared sensor. For pointing and stuff.

I hope a camera is in there. It is/was just plain limiting to only have the one inward camera on the Wii U controller.

It's literally a piece of black tape that covers up a hole in the plastic. It's not a new feature at all.

The white block at the top is just the connector that allows the controller to be connected to the WiiU directly, and will not be part of the final product.

Hmm... I'm not so sure Ubisoft has the final Wii U in their possession. Plus, dev kits generally look quite different from the system itself so I'm not so sure this is a prototype of the final version.

I can't wait for E3 to come
