If it controlled like Zora Link from Majora's Mask, I'd be in.

Of course they wouldn't be the same. Miyamoto has already said he's going to be focusing on working with the new blood on small but important projects.
:P

And who's been hiring new people lately? Retro Studios.

At least, it seems Nintendo has taken into account most of the critics that we could read a few months ago on different medias. I 100/100 trust them when it comes to a controler for a home device and i guess they made the right changes in order to provide the best Nintendo experience.

I'm glad they altered the controller. My only complaint (and its very minor) is that the new controller seems to be wider than the first model. Other than that, I like the (hopefully clickable) thumb sticks, and I like that the home button has a ring of light around it.

I'm extremely satisfied about the analog changes.

I'm not saying any of the previous Nintendo analog sticks were uncomfortable, but the circle pad was by far the most comfy of any Nintendo directional input. It will be missed and I hope this isn't for crap fpses which should use the wiimote anyway

I love GameExplain for this stuff. :D

@AceBandage: Yeah, it's not like there's an 1000+ post thread on NeoGAF about it.

Well. When I was playing OOT3D I did have some issues with the circle pad. I am an avid gamer and my thunb slipped of at some more hectic points. Apart from that it feels nice.... And YES. Wiimote/Nunchuck for FPS games! I so agree!

I like this, but I think that overall, the older design looked better and neater. I don't understand why the analogs were moved farther to the sides (that only made the controller wider), and I prefer the older Start/Select placement to this one. Also, if the squares (or at least one of them) is a Sync button, what the hell are they doing there? Put them on the back of the controller or concealed under some lid.

Okay, I still can't stand that name. I swear, if it ends up being called that, I'll give it a nickname, like UNES or something. UNES is way cooler.

Alright, all of the controller business is making me feel REALLY happy about WiiU. All I need now is a great launch lineup (Pikmin 3 alone would sway me) and a $299 price, and I'll for sure be there day 1.

Ergonomics and usability >>>>>>>> Aesthetics

The controller may look uglier, but every change was done to make gaming more confortable and practical. The start & select were unreachable in the original design, so they moved them up. The buttons and dpad being lined with the slides wasnt a natural layout for the hand, so they moved the upper imputs further away. The slides didnt worked for whatever reason (maybe they didnt click) so they replaced them with sticks. The flat back didnt let the fingers rest confortably, so they added the grips. What if the squared buttons are not for sync and are for in-game applications like going into portable mode or activating nfc? You wouldnt want them hidden, but you wouldnt like to have them with the abxy buttons either.

Don't worry then, the vitality sensor needs to envelop the finger to work, so is not that.

Those are quite a bit larger, made of metal and are not exactly the most accurate pieces of technology.
This is small, made of plastic, and not a biometric reader.

so the square thing on the left is the put your nfc device spot and the other square is probably the change the screen .

The screen has no way to scan Objects other than pressure points of the object touching the screen and very few people would want to use that in there game because it is not accurate and annoying.

If a dev wants you to place an object on the screen the only reason would be so they could have fancy graphics on the tablet screen under the object as it is being scanned. to make it seem "magical" to people who have no idea what is going on.

the scanning is done by RFID and or the camera IE barcodes or OR codes ETC. and the button to the left or the game can call for a RFID scan automatic. when the tablet has no console it is synced with it is use as the button to sync wireless devices after it is synced with a console and connected it is used as the button to scan RFID and sync other devices with the tablet.

The only screens that have abilty to scan objects are in prototype states or cost more money than any console would be worth nintendo will not use them a phone will use them long before a console the cost is too high.

like disneys touch tech something nintendo wants to get its hands on. http://www.pcworld.com/article/255124/d ... evice.html

Also nintendo does not need another part in the device to sense your pulse and heart beat it can be done with a normal Camera and a bright LED light just place your finger on the camera and it can be read the devices you use at the hospistal do the same thing only with a bright red LED not white. all you need is the software. the nright red led lights up your finger and thanks to subsurfance scattering you can see through your skin and it is read by a special camera. those devices also need a bright light to even work close to correct at reading a heart beat and vibrations alone dont do it if you move the reading would come up false like the blood pressure cuffs at the supermarket drug store.

if nintendo placed one heartrate grip on the controler you will see it plane as day it cant be hidden. it is just normal shiny plastic.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rate&hl=en

nintendo would not add cost to the console to add that feature and placing it there is pointless because you must take your hand off to be scanned if nintendo would do that it would be places on a button or a tumbstick where hands grip so it could be read at all times.

so that statement is false and wrong nintendo is not placing any extra heart reading hardware on the controler and the cost is too much already. nintendo never said they was adding this and if it does come up it will be something you wear most likey on the neck and you will buy it on your own.

Nintendo also has no reasons to add a track pad they have the touch screen so adding another track pad and putting more cost on the console for no reason is false it is a wireless and RFID sync button and nothing else that is the version of the controler that comes with the wireless version of the DEV kits the reason it was not there before is because the controlers only worked wired to the dev kit now that they are wireless the button has been added the same goes for the other sqaure button the OS features that use the button are running on the DEV kit now so it was added to the controler as needed. the other sqaure buttons function will change depending on the OS features of the game

Different tech, vitality sensor doesnt work like that

Oh and by the way the card under the tablet is a protype test RFID card used by nintendo. DEV can write data to the RFID chip on the card and use it for testing but no body seems to have noticed that yet because they have been worried about stupid sticks and a button.

in fact they have a ton of them around the controler for testing some dude looks like he was busy scanning away with the controler so there game must make heavy use of RFID or barcode cards or scanning objects they are all face down because the chip is on the other side and he may have been trying to hide them before the picture was taken.

they are like this this only with out the protective cover thse are cheep for nintendo to make and they can make them out of cardboard like the ereader cards hell nintendo made cards before they made games they can also put the chips into toys or other objects. the cards on the bottom are for testing the chips with the game before production.

Image

Also the sticks that was on the first version was just fine then everybody whined with out touching them and now there is too huge sticks popping out of what would have been an other wise almost flat form factor. they was not nubs it was a full stick only shorter so you did not have it sticking out beyond the controler the mechanics was exactly the same.

Cool it looks good if this is the Wii U controller
User avatar

Wait... they actually took out the circle pads and used real sticks?

YES! :D

Function over form wins the day, I'm so much more enthusiastic about this thing now.

I'm also always all for the functionality.

But this is just so shovelling ugly!!! And I'm not sure of its functionality has improved at all. In some cases, its functionality has gone much worse!!! I only see start button @ better place, but now the sticks stick out which compromises its portability(which I'm not sure it is mean for, I'm guessing how ever, that it will have some independence from the console, because of its form, prices of modern mobile tech and the project name Cafe).

I fear, that this design has become because of the vain whining about the sliders. Nintendo usually does the best they could, without caring too much/at all about what the HC-peasantry "thinks", but I fear, that the forum lobbying has started to bite Nintendo so much, that they have started to listen to the grapevine on some cases; I hope not.

The former design looked appealing and sleek and even that was widely bitched for being ugly. This doesn't look appealing and even less it looks like sleek, not to mention something that some body would want to touch merely for its looks; "mmm...how might something so beautiful feel to touch", this design has none of that. Now it looks like unnecessarily big, which make the screen look smaller than what it is.

It looks like Shoveltashi:
