Only problem so far that I have with the Wii U at this point for now is the system from what I see still looks like a regular Wii. I want it to look different.
But I enjoyed for the most part what the video (except the cheesy acting) showed.
I didn't mention it before, but OHMIGOSH that quick footage of that New Super Mario Bros. Wii U level looked gorgeous. Major step up from the previous games, and I hope that we'll see levels like that in NSMB2 on 3DS.
When Iwata says the Miiverse and Nintendo Network will interact with other Nintendo devices, he mentions Wii U and 3DS and the screen pans out to a solar system. I count 4 other planets not marked.
Could this be a hint Nintendo will go into this generation with multiple devices?
This could support a lot of the 3DS XL rumours if for example they have have tablet gaming devices in mind that works with the Wii U and 3DS but are targeted at a different audience.
Nonspecific action hero should get his own game! I thought that video was hilarious, but I do wonder are we going to be able to just be able to have video chat with anyone else? It just doesn't seem very Nintendo for a 12 year old kid that might be stuck on some temple in Zelda to possibility call some random 40 year old dude.

I think thats where parent controls would come in. Also you may only be able to video chat with people on your Friend's list as for Friend codes they seem to be gone now.
and now...... I'm going to sit in a corner of my room muttering Wii U till I have one.

- NSMB looks loads better than last year. Far more interesting since they're getting away from the bland look (even though enemies look the same).
- The games are just a nonspecific/nondescript as the action figure. The Boo game is called "Chase" and the zombie game was called "Shooter".

I really don't see why it matters. It's a new console, and in the end, no, people are not going to be "confused by that". The 3DS doesn't look different than the DS Lite. So again, what does it really matter. Although it's worth pointing out that even the glimpse last year of the console itself, showed that while it basically looks like a Wii, it is a more rounded design, which I would imagine might make it even more compact.
Either way, it's the games that matter. They don't need a different console design, so long as the games are awesome.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought that clip of the guy playing the Zombie shooter was incredibly painful and embarrassing to sit through. Imagine trying to convince the brocore masses to buy the system with a promotion that bad.
I have to say, I just watched it, and I'm really hyped. Wiiverse looks like Nintendo took the concept of Windows Live, and expanded it to an always on, ridiculous level. I love it! To always be connected for tips and sharing game experiences sounds pretty damn nice. This could be an incredible achievement for Nintendo if it works out as Iwata was showing and saying. Also, the background on that Mario game was stunning. The Wii U...cannot wait for Tuesday to hear/see more!!! Especially since Iwata just said that the majority of the whole presser is going to be about Wii U and its games. That's a promise I can get behind!

I think it was incredibly cheesy on purpose. I really don't think the "brocore" are going to buy a Wii U anyway, even if it winds up being THE best console with THE best games next gen. It won't matter. They'll still own an Xbox, period.
And I don't think you should take a video like that that seriously. It was a Nintendo Direct video, broadcast on Nintendo.com. It's for Nintendo fans. Not bros, or "hardcore" gamers. Real commercials for real games don't look like that, and it was kinda funny. Non-issue.

Oh I know it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, it's just the guy's voice, acting, mannerisms and the dialogue was so over the top and cringe-worthy that I didn't find it cute and cheesy, I just felt insulted by how forced and phony it was. You need to be careful with things like this, any and all advertising goes straight onto youtube where the mentally deficient masses will bitch, berate and form opinions about the console instantly based on crap like this.
Iunno, you know how some adverts just really, REALLY rub you the wrong way?
It was supposed to be over the top. It was like a fake commercial like SNL or something would do.
It was SUPPOSED to be forced and phony looking. It was like they were making fun of themselves, which honestly, I can relate to a Nintendo that doesn't take themselves seriously with a video like this WAY more than a video of an ethnically diverse family playing Metroid Prime 3 together in the living room pretending to have fun together like a Microsoft E3 conference.
The whole phone convo thing made it obvious what they were doing here, and I thought it was hilarious.
You're kidding yourself if you don't think that it matters to people who don't follow game news/casuals.
And the fact the 3DS looks like a "DS, but 3D" was one of the many problems with why the 3DS didn't go anywhere for a while. There were people buying 3DS games thinking they worked on DS and people who didn't buy a 3DS because they "just bought XL" and assumed it was the same thing.
Whether you want to admit it or not, not everyone is game savvy, just like how tons of moms/grandparents still think every console is a Nintendo or any game can be played on anything. There are people out there who don't see the difference between 3DS and DS or the Wii U and Wii.
Obviously the games are what is important, but if the system looks the same, some people aren't going to buy it because they will think they already have it and it's just a revised version. It *does* happen.
If you honestly believe that the 3DS not having a brand new design being a factor in it's initially slow sales was a factor....I don't know what to tell you. Fact is, the DS Lite style works, I really don't see how else they could have designed it. It's sleek, compact, and looks good. THE reason that 3DS started slow was a lackluster launch lineup. If it had had just one Mario related title within the launch window, instead of several months later, it would have sold like hotcakes from the start.
As for casuals and other such people not knowing it's a new system or not.....that's what going into a store and asking questions is for, which most of those kinds of people tend to do anyway. And then they can have it explained to them that it's a new console. Or they could just look at the display setup in the store and see that the graphics look a lot different from Wii, or that the controller is brand new. It's not THAT hard. And I still really don't see "brand confusion" inhibiting Wii U's sales. So long as Nintendo comes out of the gate firing this time, and doesn't have a weak launch lineup like the 3DS had, they'll be fine.

Nope. He said they will.... See my punch didn't get over to you. HAven't been training for a long time... Damn my aching foot...

Watching the Mario part again, I must say, it looks VERY beautiful. ^^ Just look at that backgrounds!~<3
In the video at 22:32min you can tell Mario's new powerup is going to be a "flying squirrel", also baby yoshis confirmed!

@goweegee
Parental controls. BAM.
@MrWu
I think it just means that they are setting this up to be the thing that all future consoles/handhelds will use, like the successors.
3DS XL is still a 3DS.
I'm amused by the fact that "wara wara" corresponds with the same term in English which is "wolla."
I can finally flash to children playing video games over the internet! This is great!

I have already favorite moment of this E3:
"Did you heard that non-specific action figure?"
We need to find him a name! ^_^
am i the only person who noticed the black wii u gamepad? looks sexy...
That sword... It looks familiar...
Nope. The guy also has a black Wii U console too. Much want...
Hype level has gone from 50% to OVER 9000% in less than 1 hour.
100% with you!! This is going to be awesome!
I like the idea of a Wii U style Twitter.
Miiverse looks like the next logical step with Streetpass Mii Plaza.
