Remember when we posted up this blurb about the Wii U back before E3?
AMD GPU7 R700-Based processor
“GX2″ named API for Wii U
32MB embedded DRAM capable of 720p 4x MSAA or 1080p rendering in a single pass
Check out this info that comes from the LinkedIn profile of Ubisoft's Rémi Génin...
I currently work on a multi-platform game engine (PC-DX9, WiiU-GX2) during the production of "The Raving Rabbids 6".
- Maintenance and optimization of the proprietary engine.
- Improvements on the soft shadows system (VSM, PCF, cascades).
- SSAO
That right there actually confirms the GX2 API from the rumored info. Does that mean the rest of those leaked specs were spot-on as well?

How does this confirm a GX2 API?
Your welcome rmc, drtre has a knack for finding things on likedin

Now what I want to know is which of the R700 series chips it will be. That chipset is also 4-5 years old, depending on the type.
Go to the second link to watch the YouTube video describing it more
People are still going to insist the neogaf users know nothing? They have been claiming these specs for a year now...
Also, ubi strikes again
So now the WiiU is made with 4-5 years chips? That's no more 7, 8,9, 1000000 years anymore? Too bad, i was hoping my Game Boy to be more powerful, i am very very very disappointed, fuck you Nintendo!
Calm down nerd, as long as it has relatively nice graphics and great games I don't care, Nintendo hasn't focused on being the most powerful system since the N64.
umm... cool I guess. So confused.
Would make sense, since Nintendo named their GC/Wii API "GX".
Thank you, Ubisoft.
Can someone please explain what any of this means?
32 Mb of EDRAM sounds good, but some info on clock speeds and number of stream processing units would be nice to get an idea of how powerful (or not) this GPU7 is. I'm guessing something close to a 40nm version of the Radeon HD4770 with a 128 bit memory bus and 640 SPUs coupled with GDDR3 RAM.

Unified shader architecture and tessellation are features that the xbox360 already has, it actually pioneered the modern shader architectute, so thats a 2006 feature. The Xenos gpu also has a tessellator that allows it to render more complex geometry compared to the RSX chip on the PS3
COmpute shaders is a somewhat more modern feature that allows the SPUs of the graphic chip to do parallel processing on general computing tasks.
All in all, the GPU7 seems to be a revised version of the Xenos GPU on the 360 by 2008 standards, which is not that bad.
Well if all these relatively weak specs are true, let us hope that:
1. There are multiple WiiU chip sets (varying on prices).
2. Nintendo upgrades these.
3. The WiiU gets delayed.
4. Future WiiU consoles are stronger (like what happened with the PS3 and Xbox 360 which Nintendo wasn't smart enough to do with the Wii).
1.5 gb memory? F***ing seriously?
So this is 2 xbox 360's duct taped together right?
i think that hothead with a strange behavior said 32mb a long time ago , i know it's good because he hates pretty much everything nintendo . as for the rest ?
You gotta love how tech-nerds (including people on here) seem to continually insist that just because they know some fancy tech specs for a console, that they can somehow directly parallel that to other hardware, much less PC architecture.
You can't. It's apples and bananas. Not even apples and oranges. Every system uses it's architecture differently, and people trying to compare a console's set-up to some PC set-up, is utterly pointless. They're used for different things.
Bottom line is, as any SMART person would realize, that Wii U is going to have great looking games. That's all that matters. The Wii U will most likely be the "PS2", graphically, of this coming generation. But guess what folks? The PS2 got most of the games and was the highest selling console of it's generation. Just saying.
@Devil_Rising
And despite its specs, PS2 had some of the best looking games of the generation looking practically identical with XBox versions(black and Burn Out 3).
