Analysts discuss Wii U's mid-term forecast

"Scarcity during the holidays of 2012 will stoke pent up demand all the way though spring time of 2013. Where it's going to get to be a little more challenging is around the May time frame or when warm weather shows up again. I think Nintendo is going to really need to demonstrate what is truly amazing about this by that time." - John Taylor of Arcadia
"Naturally there are enough curious gamers and Nintendo fans that will want to try it out - and that will eat up the initial supply. The real issue comes in about six months. You'll know more positively at that point how the console is viewed by consumers." - Colin Sebastian of R. W. Baird
"The Wii U will quickly lose positive momentum from its launch due primarily to pricing. We believe there are already a number of cheaper, comparable alternatives." - Michael Pachter

LOL! Pachters forced anti Nintendo comments again and again!

What did he say? An iPhone, iPad or the next PS420 is/will be more expensive than the Nintendo offerings. Then again, Nintendo delivers exclusive content AND all the multi platform crap is there as well. There are no excuses for 3rd parties anymore.

Wii U is the most capable machine out there, and even when PS420 is slightly more powerful, the Wii U is still the first true HD console and has it's unique controller and exclusive games. By the end of 2013 until late 2014 the PS420 will come out. At the same time Wii U could be sold for 249-299. Nintendo will be always one step ahead.

Pachter is a non-competent douche who needs to be slapped in the face with a master sword.

Pachter (Facebook $44) likes being loud wrong.

Most are taking a "wait and see" attitude. And I think everyone forgets that new hardware costs more than old hardware and the Xbox 360 will be old hardware next year at this time.

Pachter seems to be ignoring hard data -- which got a lot of analysts in trouble last time as they predicted the Wii's demise, even after it outsold the PS3 that first holiday season.

This is purely speculation.... but I'd wager a guess that Nintendo is fully aware of this "six-month slump" where initial demand is satisfied and it's a low-demand period in the year where you sink or swim based on attractive software being released, as the newness of the hardware no longer bides you any time. I'd have to assume Nintendo has an unannounced game other than Pikmin 3 that can help with that slump and carry Wii U into holiday 2013 where Retro's and EAD Tokyo's games will most likely be ready for release.

I think (hope!) they've learned from the past, they've said they have and want to have a steady flow of titles instead of the usual droughts. Of Nintendo-published titles, I think next spring/summer we're supposed to see:

- Wii Fit U
- Game & Wario
- Lego City Undercover
- Pikmin 3

Also, I think during 2013 there's a very good chance we'll see either a Mario Party or Mario Strikers for the Wii U, hopefully something from Monster Games as well (Excite Truck / 3DS Pilotwings Resort developer), maybe a Kirby game and probably something Pokemon-related. Hopefully they have some nice surprises in store as well, in addition to the usual suspects:) Finally, next holiday I expect there will have to be some big guns drawn as well, if not sooner.. basically meaning a big title or two in any of Nintendo's biggest franchises. Me thinks it'll be Mario Kart. And something from Retro in there would be a good bet too.
