Just because his tv says it's 1080p doesn't mean it is! I'd like more proof than a game that also happened to be ported to ps3 (even though there is a + symbol at the end of the video). Show me on skyward sword or something. Count the pixels!
Upscaling isn't what makes games look good in Dolphin though, the games need to actually be rendered at 1080p which I'm still not convinced is what's happening here. A Blu Ray player upscales DVDs, but they don't necessarily look any better.
Sonic Colors didn't look too stellar when I tried it out last night. I also find 'Wii Mode' entirely unnecessary and painfully slow but that's another story.
I created this simulated comparison image using Rock Band 3. It's not a very pretty-looking game but the point still stands. First is Wii, Second is Wii U. http://imgur.com/9DWY4,R5A0Z#0
The 480p rendering of the game is scaled up to fit an HD resolution like 720p internally with the Wii U, then sent to the TV via HDMI. This is better than what the Wii was doing by sending the signal to the TV via component, then having the TV scale it up to the TV's native resolution.
I too noticed a bump up in graphical quality or the sharpness and carity of the picture when playing my Wii, Virtual Console and Wiiware titles. I doubt it's 1080P but I'm sure it upscales it somewhat or does some fancy trickery to make it feel 1080p.
Well, at least this confirms it actually does spit out a 1080p image in Wii mode. The way they were talking about it made me fear it was gonna force the Wii U to output in 480p. Glad that's not the case.
@Frank
It's still technically correct that Wii games are upscaled on the Wii U. It just doesn't make much of a difference because... it's just upscaling.
Of course I've always said that upscaling makes little difference. I don't know why people make such a big deal about it.
yeah .. great ... i'm looking forward to not noticing it . I played mario galaxy back then just after playing one of those ps3 platformers on a hdtv. Nope mario galaxy was still better .
OK... Let u get thoe save files over, Ninty!!!!!!
180p eh?
that's not evidence. that's just the output of the video signal the tv is getting. not a rendered resolution.

@megarockexe
That extra sharpness kinda makes the jaggies stand out more. Not really sure if it's a good thing or not. Oh well, first world problems...
@megarockexe Awesome, appreciate sharing. It makes a big difference for text. That's awesome.

@StarStabbedMoon
I think the exaggeration of upscaling with Dolphin made people expect upscaling.
Basically, Dolphin had support for better textures, Anti-Aliasing, HD resolution, etc so it looked 10x better.
Downscaled to 180P!
