Molyneux - Wii U is good, but needs to be great

"I think the Wii U is good, but I don't feel it's great. I've played the experience, I've played Nintendo Land, I've played ZombiU, and they're good. I find holding the device in my hand--looking up at the screen and looking down at the device--slightly confusing as a consumer. It's good, but it's not great. And we really need these new pieces of hardware to be great in today's world, because the competition is not just consoles anymore. The competition is everything, all the technology. When you're holding a Kindle Fire or an iPad in your hand, it's just amazing technology. It really is. It's expensive, but it's amazing technology. And people like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft need to match that. They need to match that in my mind, and exceed it. And I'm not sure the Wii U really did that.

I've got unbelievable respect for Nintendo. They created our industry in a very real sense. I can remember everybody in the industry laughing and giggling about how stupid the Wii was, what a stupid name it was, and who would want motion control. And then it went on to sell what, 60, 70 million copies? It got people who never considered computer games to play them." - Peter Molyneux

I am often surprised at just how much Molyneux is willing to belittle the work of others. I love his games, but they're always marred by some sort of controversy. I can't ever remember him saying that he 'loved' another bit of software that he didn't work on.

Molyneux's games are mediocre but they need to be great.

Molyneux: "You're good... but I'm better!"

The funny thing is rmc, he belittles the industry. Vita is a gimmick. Wii u is confusing. Yet when it comes to his own stuff we are misunderstanding of it.

He is one of the guiltiest people in the industry for under-delivering yet he criticizes everybody else. Admit it Peter. As it currently stands milo is impossible. But no he never will.

nearly one hundred millions copies , fifty percent more than your platform . The one with the delusional presentation about breaking several new barriers , the one that wasn't question at all , with the ted talk , and all the media applauding you .
I mean the guy is so delusional he might actually read comment on the internet.

What?!?
Is he really that type of guy who hates everything what Nintendo'es? My Wii U arrived today, I'm writing this on my Gamepad on Wii U. 4 tabs open, youtube movie (zeitgeist) running on my big screen in the background. Can Kindle or iPad do this, albeit iPad is twice as expensive than the whole Wii U?

It's good to hear Molyneux talk about his works that way. Now if only he would stop calling it the WiiU, and start calling it Fable III, then he will finally stop with his denial... :D

He will continue to flop until he accepts his failing destiny.

Depending on what big screen setup you have, yes they can.

My crappy android phone can run several tabs/windows at once, play youtube movies, etc. With the right kind of setup one could easily send content from their phone to their computer/TV. Even Windows has advertised this on some of their of their older products.

Here's another, much older quote from Molyneux that was used to end the book Game Over by David Sheff:

"Never underestimate Nintendo." - Peter Molyneux

I don't see fault in anything that he is saying here... he's just speaking his mind. He isn't saying they are doomed or that the system sucks. He isn't being a troll. He is expressing concerns.

Either he is right and Nintendo ends up having to find a new strategy or old Peter Molyneux is right and we should never underestimate Nintendo. I'm not sure which way it is going to go myself, but I'm going to enjoy watching it all play out.

I think Peter Molyneux is good, but not great.
