Since we're less than a day away from the Chotto Nintendo Direct about Pokemon, I thought I'd share this rumored info that came my way. The source would like to remain anonymous. What I can say is that this source has sent in Pokemon info in the past that turned out to be true. We'll see if they're spot-on this time!
The announcement is, more or less, a love letter to the franchise. It's being called Pokemon Rainbow, a 3DS game that encompasses the settings and Pokemon from generations 1-4: Red and Blue, Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire, and Diamond and Pearl. You can take my word for it that the graphics are done up very nicely. The perspective is similar to what you'd expect from Pokemon games, but the camera is much more dynamic. The graphical style is characterized by very clean, dark lines. Almost cartoonish, but not quite. Battles look radically different, and move away from the use of pixel art. Though it seems that the interface is still made of pixels. The battle that it shown is between a totally new trainer and a wild Weedle. The trainer uses a Pikachu.
I'm not privy to any story details, as I only know what will be announced tomorrow. The story is concurrent with Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 in terms of timeline. There are over 20 new Pokemon, and two will be revealed tomorrow. One is an evolution of an older Pokemon Eevee, called Draconeon. The other is a totally new Pokemon, called Verbill. It looks like a rodent, much like the Pokemon Patrat, but has a sort of pirate theme going on.
A Wii U app will be launched along with the game, which will be announced tomorrow. However, all that will be said is that the app will be addressed "at a later date". The logo for the app features a globe with Pikachu, Munna, Treeko, Cyndaquil, and Piplup popping out from various countries.

I had to hit my head against my Treecko pillow when I read "Less plot-focused", I was hoping there would be more plot in the Pokemon games since Black and White seemed to handle that, but I'm still fine with more free roaming.

According to the European Nintendo site this Nintendo Direct Mini "features Nintendo President Satoru Iwata taking a look at this long-running series."
Why is Iwata looking back at older Pokémon games? Does this have something to do with the new game?

The Trinity rumor sounds more believable and that one was ridiculous.
I know it should be taken witha a grain of salt, but as much as gamefreak seems to be refuse to change things up out of habit i wouldnt put this past them.
Just give me next gen pokemon with the character models used in the 3D Pokedex, that would be a huge step forward.
Yeah, sorry, but I don't believe this. It's too much what we want, and not enough what Nintendo/Game Freak would actually do.
I'm calling this as no. The good thing is that this time it's popping up near enough to the conference that we'll all be able to remember if this was a reliable source or not! Not like when E3 rumours get posted a month or two before and forgotten about by the time the conference comes around.
If this is real, day 1 purchase probably for me. I can't get hyped because this is some unknown source, however if it's someone reliable that RMC trusts they could be hearing things through the grapevine. Which means we may not get this game exactly as they say...but I would not be against it.
I'm ok with everything but 20 new pokemon. And the eeveelution name. This is false though, no matter how "trustworthy" the source is.
With that title, it makes me think more of a spin-off rather than a main series game. Still, this announcement is really encoraging me to finally get Black and Black 2.

This is the only logo released to date regarding the announcement to date.
It features all the Eeveelutions and an empty space above the final character.

how can anyone think this is less believable than Trinity? >__> This actually seems like a logical and easy step into 3d to me.
This sounds believable except for the only 20 new pokemon, and having access to all regions from all those games. Nintendo would likely add more pokemon to make it more appealing and not disappoint fan expectations. Also going through the areas of gens 1-4 I can't really see happening because unless it's balanced just right you'd probably have you're entire party at level 100 before you were at the end.
It's still a lot more believable than the pokemon trinity rumor. No way is Nintendo going to change things that much.
It would be pretty cool, if true, however I doubt Nintendo would do something like this. They could just put the classic games on virtual console and make tons of money that way. I guess we wait and see.
@Mako, that would be smart for them, especially if they added wireless multiplayer support to give older gamers incentive to play them again.
