As much as I don't find Yahtzee very funny, I'm gonna agree with him on this one... But only on the aspects of gameplay, content, and story.

That was half funny, and half correct.

No No No, you don't understand. Its not that they tried something different. Thats ok! Its that they tried something different and FAILED. HUGE difference.

Now if your excuse me, I'm off to play Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door again. :p

I haven't played Sticker Star yet. As far as I'm concerned if it's as good as Super Paper Mario, the game that wasn't even an RPG, then I'm fine. I don't take Yahtzee seriously at all.

Spoiler:
I feel like this site is becoming more cynical or something lately, because I swear this video had +3 last I checked, and it wasn't because of people thinking Yahtzee's funny...

I see Nintendo doing two or three things with the Paper Mario series now:

1. Go back to the original formula, and continue to make Paper Mario games, even when the fans become unhappy that nothing original is brought to the series.

2. Drop the Paper Mario franchise completely and focus entirely on their second RPG franchise, Mario and Luigi.

3. Try another direction with the next Paper Mario game that may or may not end in success.

I still have to get this game. I'm a bit disappointed in the changes done, but I still love the series

i like the ones where he's gushing about some fps , it's always so strange to me how they could be so fascinating with that much obvious pandering .

Beaten the game, have found Luigi in all five places, now I just have to complete the sticker museum and get all the achievements.

Love this game!!

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with some of his points. Sticker Star was a decent game, but it was pretty lame compared to the other Paper Marios.

The RPG elements and story that made the Paper Mario series great were severely nerfed. Battles felt a bit pointless since there's no experience points- and because stickers and coins are all over the overworld, there's no real incentive to fight for those. They also traded away all the wacky characters from the previous games for a bunch of generic Toads with little to no personality.

As a platformer, it's pretty mediocre as well. I feel like you'd be better off playing a regular Mario game if platforming is what you're looking for. It's like a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation.

So it is a bad thing that they removed the pointless leveling? To me it's not.

When there are puzzles in the game that require you to die in order for you to figure out what you were supposed to do or have you rely on a Random Chance slot machine, that's not a good sign for Sticker Star.

It's like Sierra made this.

@Eternal Rain

For real, I remember a few years back when people would go "Yahtzee is the only reviewer I trust".

That's easily one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Yahtzee is not a reviewer, he is an entertainer.

Just like The Nostalgia Critic (or anyone on Channel Awesome for that matter) you don't really watch their videos to get an opinion. You get it for comedy.

I personally don't find Yahtzee funny, but I can certainly understand those who does, but if/when I watch a Yahtzee video, it's certainly not to be informed. . .about the game at least.

That analogy at the end was hilarious. I enjoy Zero Punctuation, good for a laugh.

Thankfully you can use coins to make the slot machine work in your favor!
I agree with you though, especially when it comes to the Bowser boss battle: the trial-and-error game play did put a dent in an otherwise outstanding adventure game. For me though, this is the first game in a long while to make me feel stupid when I couldn't figure out an obvious puzzle (the baseball bat one).

@WesFX some of the changes they made to the game that I liked in previous instalments. You don't have to play it to know things have changed, previews/reviews say enough

I'm with you. I actually hate leveling in most games, not just this series, so I feel like they dramatically improved the game by removing it. I'd consider it one of the best RPGs I've played in my life. *Waits for stupid people to be like "Clearly you never played X game that I like and thus it invalidates your statement!" that he has likely played and likely still owns.*

Heh Funny you should say that as the original paper Mario games and earthbound both games made by Nintendo had features where there was no "pointless leveling", in both games when you reach a certain level the game would automatically kill enemies for you and give you all the exp and money without a battle.

@Einar1025so this.

Honestly as long as yahtzee doesn't crap on the game being turn based(he hates turn based games) i'm pretty sure i'll agree with everything he says.

My favorite part is when everyone keeps talking trash about this game, but once Yahtzee says it, some people are all "WHOA NOW. WAY TO HATE"

This would happen to a stronger degree if it was G4 if it still existed as well.

@internet

You just proved you've never watched any of Yahtzee's videos.

So I hope you don't expect to be taken seriously. Just like he's not supposed to be.

@TheBitBlock

You should know by now that this is a problem with people.

Nintendo does something different: Oh god! YOU RUINED IT!
Nintendo does something the same: Wow, way to be stale and not change.

I own Sticker Star, but haven't played it yet. I see people hating on it but it mostly seems to be because it's not The Thousand Year Door, which I find to be overrated. I love the RPG Paper Mario games, a lot, but I don't see what difference it makes.

@MoldyClay Yep your totally coll pretending you know what your talking about.

Simple When people ask for something new because the series is getting stale(NEVER actually seen anyone claim this of paper mario)

That doesn't mean we what the polar opposite.
Change isn't the problem,change that doesn't FIT the series is the problem.

You think anyone claiming nsmb2 is stale wants the next mario game to be a bullet hell shooter? You think anyone complaining about metroid other m wants a glorified remake packaged as "new"?

Simple take what works about the series and build up from that. If you bought a car and it broke down you'd pissed if the mechanic "fixed" it by removing the stereo.

SMB3 is the perfect example as was oot(i could think of dozens more) They added JUST THE RIGHT ammount of new ideas to the series to make it not feel like we payed twice for the same exact game,but never added anything that ruined the spirit of the series.

Please tell me Between NSMB 2,Metriod other m,and smb 3 which would you pick?
Oh right the one that's not terrible or lazy,a.k.a smb3
