Ubisoft - Prince of Persia franchise has been 'paused', but fans shouldn't worry

“Brand management is a tricky thing. It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it.

I'm not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans, We'll find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest. Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will.” - Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat

I think the Prince of Persia franchise needs to find its voice again. Somewhere along the line, it seems like Ubisoft forgot what the series was about. It got cluttered up with extra nonsense that diluted the fun. Let's hope the series finds itself in the future.

They took a step in the right direction with the 2008 game, then went back to being rather generic and bland in 2010. All they need to do is make a game in the same style and tone as the 2008 one, but with more involving combat and they'd be onto a winner.

The last game was really fantastic, depending on the platform you were looking at (hint: Wii version).

@The Stickman agreed! PoP 2008 was good, from the redesigned combat to the beautiful rendition of the world, and especially the amazing animation of the characters and free running, seriously, their attention to detail on how the 2 characters animate when intersecting action happens is seamlessly gorgeous! and the ability to start conversations whenever and they would be either relevant to the story, character development or even the environment was awesome! not to mention funny

For once, Ubisoft are treating a franchise with respect. Never make a game just for the sake of having one out at regular intervals.

Only make it when the magic is truly there, or it'll merely mar the reputation of the franchise. Sink the overall appeal.

This is one of my favorite series's and I'd like to see it revived.

I'll take a PoP game with (at least) AC3 graphics!
