Seems like we'll be getting some prettier effects because of it. Here are features the game got because of the drop in resolution.
- dynamic fog
- five depth of field background layers
- foreground blur
- dynamic water / lava
- soft shadows
- no polygon edges (anti-aliased due to texture filtering)

I hope the Nintendo fanbase supports this game.
It loooks great anyway. Day one purchasse for me.
1080p is great, but IMO 60fps is a priority.
I hope more devs push for 1080p (looking forward to MH3U), but I hope that that doesn't come at the cost of fps.
Anti Aliasing is a huge plus.
I'll take it. I would much rather have the effects than the increased resolution. The game will look better because of it.
@marsbarrow
Keep in mind that it also gets 60FPS, compared to the 30FPS.
So double FPS, Anti-Aliasing, and more effects in trade for 1080p? Sounds perfect.
@marsbarrow Yep - game devs are gonna always take this priority on console games too [so don't expect to see any 1080p / 60fps games on consoles, period].
Haven't decided whether to dip in on this or Need for Speed - both games don't really interest me [especially the later, being a realistic racer], but I want to support their rational opinions and approaches to the most powerful console currently out... Decisions, decisions.
Shin'en did that with Nano Assault and that looks freakin' amazing. Sooo.. This is good.
@Chosenoneknuckles: Let's wait at least until Wednsday before we know that about consoles, OK?
No need to wait, though. Game devs' design philosophy of visual spectacles over performance is still in effect - 720p/60fps is gonna be the standard for this gen thus.
So were seeing the wiiU at 720 for added effects instead of the ps360's 540p for added effects. Believe it or most good looking 360 games drop the resolution to 540p and just upscale it so they can put 720p support on the box.
Not going with it. I have to see what Sony and MS have to say..Officially! Doesn't look like Sony will go Ultra HD, but they could still choose a 1080P and 60FPS combo on the PS4.
You were around for 'PS3 is gonna do 120fps', and the fact that they unveil all their new systems with tech demos, right [can't say anything about MS, I never watched their console unveilments]?
You may want to stick to PCs if that's what you're expecting as the de facto standard on consoles...
I was there yes, and didn't believe them just like I didn't believe "Toy Story like graphics" for the PS2. But if they show a game IN MOTION running at 60 FPS in 1080P I might have to give them a chance. And from the rumored specs of the PS4 it could perhaps o it. But again, I am going to wait and see!
A bit more on-topic: Toki Tori 2 looks great from the vids. I never played the first one. Should I check this one out?
What kind of game is Toki Tori 2 exactly? from what i have watched in video, it looks like a platformer/puzzler. im just curious if its a thinking game or a twitch platformer. one of my favorite games is Portal 2, because i could relax and try to figure out how i had to beat the level.
@Chosenoneknuckles
Need for Speed from Criterion is not a realistic racer, its more arcade. unless of course you mean like kart racers or something like F-Zero, then i can see what you mean.
I'm curious on this too - it looks charming, but that alone isn't gonna push me to buy it [especially amongst Nintendo's Megaton March Line-Up].
Oh, I meant comparing it to Mario Kart, DKR and Sonic Racing [the only racers I've played]. They just aren't my avenue of fun.
I'll take 720p60 with AA and extra effects over 1080p30 without AA and less effects any day.
Though, it's disappointing that the Wii U can't push both.
To everyone who thinks that the ps4 / 720 are going to do all 1080p60, you're nuts.
Looks like fun.
All this talk of FPS and resolution reminds of how amazing F-Zero GX was.
That was a GAMECUBE game running at full 480p+widescreen with 30 cars on track, brilliant effects, blazing speed, and a practically LOCKED 60fps.
No wonder Nintendo hasn't bothered to attempt a sequel. I doubt they could top it.
If such a graphically brilliant game like F-Zero GX used to run at 60FPS in 480p in a Game Cube, you'd think a simple puzzle-platformer would be able to do 60FPS in 1080p two generations later...
