SEGA wants Mario players and platforming fans to enjoy Sonic Lost World

Coming from an interview with ONM...

“Sonic started out as a platform title but, as we got to the more recent ones, it changed to be a more speed-based game. Recent fans will be familiar with that speed-based gaming, but with Lost World, we wanted to win back the platform fans. We don’t just want old Sonic fans to come back, though: we want Mario players and other platform gamers to enjoy the new game, too.” - Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka

Sonic has certainly been on the upswing lately. I really think this outing could be one of the best yet. I know I'm in for a day-one purchase. How about you guys and gals?

I'm really looking forward to it. It looks pretty fantastic, and it will make up for the lack of a galaxy esque Mario game this year.

Too bad the negative nancys on the gamefaqs board of this game will rip-this news apart. Then again, gamefaqs.

Still undecided on this one. The last Sonic game I played was Secret Rings on Wii. Lots of potentially great platforming games this fall. DKCTF and SM3DW are definite buys while SLW and RL will most likely be rents (Sonic because of quality issues and Rayman because I've never played one before).

^^
Wow, I just realized I am going to be buying FOUR platformer games for the Wii U this year. (Mario, Sonic, Rayman, DK) Probably more than that if you count eShop titles and anything else I missed.

As a Mario player, I also want to enjoy Sonic Lost World.

I'm hoping it'll be great! Wii U needs software.

I'm looking forward to this a decent amount more than 3D World, so they're doing their job so far.

Out of all the third party games coming out, I believe this one's gonna be the most popular. Sega should have nothing to worry about since it is the successor to Colors which sold over 2 million and were only on Nintendo platforms.

I can't seem to get into Sonic games. Everything seems like it's going by so quickly, and it makes me feel like I almost have no control because I can't take in what I'm supposed to do fast enough.

Dont worry Sega, ive always loved Sonic games and this comes from not only Mario player, but a lover of Nintendo in general. Plus ive always secretly considered Sonic a member of the Nintendo family =)

I want an HD remake of sonic adventure. Emerald coast still gives me chills.

Speed looks more manageable, I want to feel in control of Sonic and not been in auto all the time only to be dead stop in my tracks for something I didn't see coming. I like the variety in this game and even though it's linear alternative paths make it look deep. Can't wait to see the boss battles.

Good. Sonic slowing down is a good thing.

That's the point of this game, to fix that.

The only problem is how floaty Sonic feels. I had no problem playing Sonic Colors and Generations, he just doesn't have "slow platforming" physics to me. Regardless, Lost World looks damn good and I'm gonna buy it.

Not sure if it's day one for me, but it's a strong contender for "get"

I'm currently more excited for this game than any other that's coming out. Definite day one on Wii U and I'll get it down the line for the 3DS.

Sonic Adventure 1/2 3DS would be my personal game of forever. Granted that they fix things like the mech controls in SA2, the radar in SA2, fishing in SA1, camera, etc. Plus a fully featured portable Chao Garden.

of course it also depends on what else is coming out at the time, but it's a good possibility that i'll get this day 1

Indeed. In this game you can actually tell sonic when to move fast. If you want him to move slower, don't press the right trigger and he'll just walk like any traditional platformer character.

Always been more of a Sonic fan than a Mario one - definitely gonna be picking this up [right in time for my 27th too]! :D

@PatrickTheHuman Yeah, the HD ports of SA1/2 are already out there [on the PS360PC] so I hope they put them up on the Wii U eShop one day [and also, SoA HD, Shenmue I and II HD]...

I miss the Chaos Garden [from SA2]. It needs to be brought back in a main [console] title :(

Lost World looks good. Unfortunately, many Sonic duds looked good. I'm a "Wait and see because I do not trust the franchise" buyer.

Well personally, I think the game looks awesome and I'll definitely be getting it.

The physics look choppy, Sonic has a run button rather than his speed being momentum based, the level concepts don't really blow the mind apart from the Mario Galaxy/Knuckles Chaotix minigame inspiration, and the gameplay is still sort of just weirdly paced wandering broken up by a series of springs connected in such a way that you're basically watching a small cutscene instead of playing.

Sonic still looks more or less like Sonic Adventure Sonic, an image that one associates with the worst games of the series.

I think a retro Sonic return, or a new redesign, is long overdue if they want new players or Mario fans to look their way again.

They need to make a dramatic statement, really reboot Sonic.

I definitely got that vibe from the 3DS game. I probably won't like these as much as other recent Sonic games, but I'm looking forward to them still.
