What'��s the Deal with Genre Labels?

If the game industry plans on taking their software and reaching out to an even bigger audience, they’re going to have to more clearly define game genres. Unfortunately, the way things are set up right now, only gamers understand what is going on. Do you think the average person knows what a first-person shooter, platformer or MMORPG is? Surely there’s a better way to classify these experiences.
