Developers don't have to us 3D when making 3DS game

GN Version 3.1

This snippet was included in our Iwata Asks feature wrap-up from earlier today, but a few people have emailed it in. Wanted to make sure you all caught it!

“Right. It’s compatible with software for previous Nintendo DS systems, which will be viewed in the 2D mode. New game cards, however, will be specific to Nintendo 3DS, but whether they will be in 3D or not is basically up to the maker, just like how much to use the touchscreen was up to developers for Nintendo DS.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

I wonder how many devs aren’t going to use the 3D effects on the system. Who knows, maybe we won’t even care about 3D in a few years!
