What ever happened to Samurai Warriors: Chronicles online co-op?

Remember when Samurai Warriors: Chronicles was going to have online co-op? That might have been a little bit more of a reason for consumers to look into the game, but sadly, the feature never made it in. We know that the feature was to be included at one point, as official promo materials listed it. Just what in the world happened?

Called Tecmo Koei, they said that Samurai Warriors Chronicles was slated to have online co-op during development, but that feature was dropped before it was released. They said that the information that Nintendo had on their site was old and based on back when online co-op was still supposed to be in the game. Nintendo did say that they would inform whoever it is that needs to update that information. - IGN user blog

I would love to hear why exactly it was dropped. I guess that’s a feature for the inevitable sequel?
