The staff at Crossbeam Studios sure like to keep themselves busy. Not content with working on one Revolution project, they have three different games in the works. Tonight Crossbeam gave us some info on their Action/Adventure game Thorn.
Thorn looks as if it will have a little bit of everything to help satisfy gamers out there. You want space combat you got it, exploration for the adventurer, segments on rails, shooter goodness, and even some swordplay. The amount of gameplay types in Thorn is mind boggling. It is very rare to see a blend of so many different game types come together in one cohesive package, but Crossbeam is up for the challenge.
You know that as you play though these elements you are going to have to take out an enemy or two. As mentioned above there will be areas of sword fighting in the game. Thorn offers up a collection of martial arts style weapons at for you to have at the enemy. Seems like Revo games love their swordplay!
What about those shooter elements metioned earlier? All the info I could weasle out of Crossbeam was that we can expect “projectile weapons” of some sort. Of course I had to ask if we would be seeing some sort of fireball (projectile weapon of choice!) in Thorn, but all I got out of them was a maybe. Damn these developers and their secrets!
One way Crossbeam Studios plans to immerse you in the world of Thorn is by ever changing climates throughout your journey. With that broad of a category we could be seeing anything from rain to snow, wind to lava, and anything else inbetween. The change in climates should make for a more realistic presentation, and offer up new challeges along the way.
One of the juiciest tidbits I found out about Thorn is the fact that the game plays the way you want to play it. You will meet all types of people along your way that will offer up information to you. Based on who you run with, who you listen to, and what you do with the information, your experience with Thorn can change radically. Hang out with a gang most of the time, and you will find yourself in a lot of gunplay, follow the straight and narrow to take a path of exploration. Thorn is your game to play as you please. Replay value could quite simply be staggering.
Crossbeam Studios is trying to take gaming to the next level. They don’t let you just sit and play, they want to grab you by the arm, and throw you into their worlds. Rather then watching a character go through a painful memory, they want you to personally feel it. This team is pouring their heart and soul into Thorn, Orb, and Darkness. “We’re really trying to get the player to to see things from the characters eyes, and be in the game, not just playing it waving a wand around.” Mental and physical immersion…I’m game, are you?
