Japan - Sonic Riders, Trauma Center, Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games DS first day sales

The Japanese don’t like Sonic anymore. I think that is a fact rather than an opinion. They have just fallen out of love with the character, unless he is paired of with someone of note…such as Mario and the crew. This might be why Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity didn’t have such a strong start in Japan. On its first day, the title managed to move 2,000 units. It will most likely be downhill from here, making it slightly tough to break 10,000 in sales for the first week.

On the other hand, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games DS has managed to move 40,000 units on the first day. I guess the Japanese just love Mario more than they hate Sonic. Or perhaps they just really love the rivalry.

Oddly enough, Trauma Center: New Blood met the same fate. Yes, that’s right…the Trauma Center sequel moved 2,000 units on its first day as well. Now this one I can’t explain. The game is top quality, but Japan feels like ignoring it. I swear, all the Japanese are interested in are RPGs and mini-games. Where did their love of the industry go?
