It can’t be Sunday already…can it?! Where is this weekend going? I plan to make the most out of this Sunday that I possibly can. In-between my regular weekend work schedule, I plan to swim, play some badminton, play some games, head out to do some shopping, hang with friends, watch AFV, and just enjoy the day. I hope you enjoy your day, as well. I will see you all in a few hours to kick off the Sunday news. Hope you all are enjoying the hell out of your weekend thus far.

Game Center CX is a television show in Japan that has spawned a DS game, hundreds of pieces of merchandise, a rabid fan base, and a pop-culture icon. People in the states have no idea what this Japanese show is all about (for the most part). I have been lobbying hard for the TV show to come stateside, and things are definitely moving in that direction. Just a few weeks ago, there was a showing of Game Center CX in NYC. This time around it was called Retro Game Master, and was subbed for English-speaking crowds. The response was great, and Stylejam, the company behind the localization, couldn’t have been happier.

The thing is, Stylejam still doesn’t have anyone attached to publish the DVD sets in North America. They are hoping to drum up some interest through the internet, and people are slowly taking notice. Reader Jet Pilot knows that I dig the series, and would love to see it become just as popular in America as it is in Japan. He gave me a little kick in the ass to get me pushing for this TV series…hard. I took his incentive, and have decided to dedicate today’s thought to the series.

Basically, the show is about a man trying his best to start and finish old-school Famicom games. This man was not a gamer by any means, he was an average joe. Now, he is known all throughout Japan for his trial-and-error approach to gaming. This is the little guy…the underdog you root for to achieve his goals. Think of this as a sports drama, but replace the sport with video games. Of course, a trailer could do a much better job explaining the series than I could. I took the time to rip/upload the trailer for you guys to check out. I really hope Stylejam doesn’t mind…I am just trying to rally the troops for this series!

Long story short, Retro Game Master is a TV show about gaming that deserves attention. This is the type of show that should be on G4. Don’t get me wrong, I love 12 episodes of COPS in a row, but there should be room for quality game-related programming like this. Spread the word, link the trailer, contact Stylejam, email this post…just start doing your part to make Retro Game Master a part of our culture.
