Look to Wednesday for confirmation of new DS *PLUS* Nintendo denies suppling new DS info to Nikkei

If there’s truth to the Nikkei report, we’ll likely know on Wednesday, when Nintendo president Satoru Iwata delivers the company’s annual fall presentation. Last year, the event included the blockbuster announcement that the next console sequel to Japan’s hottest franchise, “Monster Hunter,” is coming to the Wii.

We already know that Nintendo of America is holding an event starting this Thursday, and it’s running for two days. We also know that NCL is doing an event to coincide. According to MTV, the news may hit a bit earlier. When we consider time zones, this could mean that we’ll hear this information anywhere from very late Tuesday night, to sometime very early Wednesday.

Also worth mentioning, Nintendo has released a more fleshed-out statement in which they take no responsibility for supplying Nikkei with new DS info.

“The Nikkei newspaper wrote a recent story about a DS solely based upon their own research and speculation, without interviewing Nintendo. While Nintendo is always working on new hardware, we have not made any announcement about a DS and we cannot comment on the Nikkei story.”
