The Twilight Princess boxart debacle

Yesterday we were sent a boxart claimed to be the final version for Twilight Princess. While the boxart does match up with the image shown at Nintendo’s NYC event, it appears that it was a photoshop of the existing artwork that can be found on EB Games/Gamestop’s websites.

I then edited the story to add in the two-toned color boxart that is displayed on those websites, albeit a larger version. While Nintendo showed off the gold overlay version at NYC, it appears that the two-tone color was more often claimed the correct one.

Just now I have received an email from an inside source that wishes to remain anonymous. This source is to be 100% trusted, as I have worked with him many, many times in the past and he has never been wrong. He was able to obtain the full, print-resolution boxart from a retail chain, although it was saved with minor compression from the original. This is what at least one big retailer has received concerning Twilight Princess on the Wii. Click the thumb to enlarge.

As you can see, this version resembles the version we posted yesterday with some slight differences. I want to state that I have no idea if the two-toned version of the box will be final packaging for Twilight Princess at some point down the road. We know that Zelda titles do come in gold packages at launch, but as time goes on they change the boxart. Once again, the above boxart comes from a source that I trusth 100%, no doubt about it.

My sincere apologies for the boxart posted yesterday. It was close enough at first glance to pass for the version shown at Nintendo’s NYC event. That coupled with the Nintendo forums thread lead me to believe it was the correct boxart. I am deeply sorry for any confusion this caused.
