White Birds has been developing Sinking Island for the PC for quite some time. The title is due for release sometime in February. White Birds is doing what they can to keep the adventure genre alive, and they have obviously seen promise in the DS. Their creative team has started pre-production on a version of Sinking Island for the DS. The DS version will follow the same storyline and characters from the PC version, but changes will be made to the graphics and control scheme. White Birds has noted that the top screen will be used for inventory and a world map, and the bottom screen will be where the action takes place. Check out a mock-up from White Birds as to what the game may look like on the DS. Click the thumb for the full version.

The storyline in Sinking Island is a pretty interesting one. You play the part of Jack Norm, a private investigator. You are sent to check out a tropical island where the murder of a billionaire hotel owner has taken place. Your job is to sift through the evidence, and information given to you by the 10 suspects to put an end to the mystery. The game gets its title from the fact that the island is constantly sinking due to the huge stature of the billionaire’s hotel. This leaves gameplay to take place over a 3 day period (simulated, not real time) where certain clues and items will be lost to the ocean as time passes.

I am so happy to see the adventure genre making a comeback thanks to the DS. Here is another DS game to add to my growing list of must-haves. Thanks to Wedge for the heads up.
