iGoogle bares its gaming flair — event

Last night, Google invited us to attend a private soiree just a few blocks south of the main GDC hoopla in order to witness their new gaming partnerships between their iGoogle home page product and various big names in gaming. The outcome? New themes for your homepage, and it’s about bleeding time. Until now there I’ve really had to reason to bother marring the simplicity of my homepage with sunsets, beaches and other “Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey” backdrops.

But now you can be greeted by Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong… even Wii Sports when you check in with a fresh browser window/tab. Plus, thanks to Activision, Blizzard, Capcom, EA, Eidos, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, and Wizards of the Coast, you can also get themes for fan favourites like Mega Man, Tomb Raider, Guitar Hero, and Final Fantasy, and Spore, among many others.

One of the best parts of the event? Aside from (free) fancy finger food, was the background music, playing remix game tunes from OC Remix and many others. Did they play any of RMC’s mysterious tunes? Not for me to say.

Anyway, check out a few of my cell photos below, and then hop over to iGoogle and take a peek. —cortjezter
