Sony sees Wii and PS2 as competing platforms

“From a technical and development standpoint, the Wii is much closer to PlayStation 2 than to PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo has done a good job of capturing young and female consumers, which are two demographics that the PlayStation 2 targets quite successfully. Now, with a new, lower price and a huge gaming library, PlayStation 2 delivers a compelling entertainment value that’s well positioned to compete with the Wii.” - John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America

People buy the Wii because it has motion-controls, and people buy the PS2 because it’s cheap and has a massive library. I just don’t see these two platforms being in competition with one another. Thanks to Mohan for the heads up!
