An excerpt from Chris Kohler’s blog

So far, I’ve played the first level of Yoshi’s Island. It hews very, very close to the Super NES (and Game Boy Advance) original, almost as if developer Artoon was scared to deviate at all from the winning formula that made the original YI one of the best in the Mario series.

On the one hand, maybe that’s a good thing, as the last time Artoon was put in charge of the Yoshi series, they went far off the reservation, producing the ugly, unplayably bad Yoshi Topsy-Turvy. I’m glad the fear of Jesus seems to have been put into them. But can it really be considered a win if all Yoshi’s Island DS ends up being is a shot-for-shot retread of a decade-old game?

I also received Yoshi’s Island DS today…and have been playin it non-stop. In my opinion, Artoon has done an excellent job with the title. There are a handful of new additions to the title to keep it from being a retread of the original. I am a hardcore Yoshi’s Island fan, and I am very pleased with the game so far. Do you guys want me to take a few digital camera videos of the game in action? Leave a comment, let me know.
