Original Chiptune Album

Postby Dcapo1989 » 20 Aug 2011 01:28

Hello everyone, I'm a frequent visitor to the site, but I've barely posted anything. I am an electronic artist and composer and I just moved from Florida to California to study electronic music and production at Mills College in northern California. I've been working on a few gaming centered projects for my portfolio that I thought you guys might enjoy. One is a retro game soundtrack made up of chip tunes and the other is a survival horror soundtrack. Both are work in progress and the playlists are continually growing, but I thought I would share them with you all.

Retro Game OST
http://soundcloud.com/dcapo1989/sets/re ... -game-ost/

This OST is not really meant to be a completely authentic soundtrack abiding by the rules of the Nes and Its sound capabilities but instead uses more sophisticated instruments along with the classic 8 bit sounds to create something a little fresher. Hopefully.

Survival Horror OST
http://soundcloud.com/dcapo1989/sets/horror-game/

This OST is comprised of music to set the tone for the horrific kinds of scenes that would take place in a survival horror video game. Much of the music is ambient music and is primarily meant to add to that tense atmosphere you would expect.

Please let me know what you think. Ideas and constructive criticism are welcome.

welcome!

first, your school is literally down the street from my place. there's a shuttle to it just a few minutes walk.

second, that retro ost is delicious. wish there were download links! :D

survival ost is also pretty cool; love the sort of ambient vibe.

i'll keep an eye on your future work!

Just added a new track today. Some light hearted shop music. It's a fun contrast to the rest of the soundtrack so far. Hope you like it.

Nice work here. The Retro album feels professional and there are some catchy tracks in there. I'm not much of a chiptune artist, so it's difficult for me to provide much feedback on that. The Survival Horror album seems to capture the right feelings; I particularly like use of the ethnic instruments.

Hey guys, the retro video game soundtrack is in it's last stages of production and will be completed and released in the next few weeks. Since I've posted here last the album has grown in length to about 51 minutes and has a lot more track variety than before. I've also updated with new album art which I hope you guys enjoy. I hope you guys will give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Hello everyone, I have just finished a new 15 track chiptune album inspired by my love for old school gaming.

http://dcapo1989.bandcamp.com/

Notes:
Video Games were an essential part of my childhood. Not only did they provide me with a way to escape the problems of my youth but games like Zelda, Mega Man and Final Fantasy are what inspired me to begin writing music in the first place. This album is a reflection on my favorite childhood memories as a gamer and a tribute to the games that inspired me to pursue music as a career. The album takes inspiration from early NES game soundtracks in style and form but also extends track lengths to add development and uses various synth sounds to add texture and detail that wouldn't have been possible with the original system.
Please visit my Bandcamp profile to listen.

Enjoy,
Daniel.
