Mine has to be DK64 it was very well put together with K.Rool Laughing right before he is going to destroy DK Isles.

2nd has to be Yoshi's Story where the Kamek takes the crying Yoshi to baby bowser's castle

I've always liked Bowser's laugh when you die in Super Mario 64. Though I don't like the game, the moon crashing down in Majora's Mask was always pretty memorable as well. And who can forget the game over screen from the original Zelda?

Majora's Mask, hands down... It's just so overwhelming and such a spectacle. Everything you worked so hard to protect, all those people you got to know so well, all their unresolved sorrows... it all gets destroyed and you can't stop it..

If it's Nintendo franchises only, I second Majora's Mask's game over as I agree with everything Rusty said.

But if 3rd party franchises are allowed in this thread, I put Chrono Trigger's "But the future refused to change..." game over above all else. You fight Lavos as best as possible only to have him still destroy 1999.

That hits deep.

I'd consider Chrono Trigger valid as it debuted on the SNES and had the arguably most superior version released on the DS recently.

Excellent example, man. That was one of many many many things in the game that gripped me.

Conker's Bad Fur Day and Banjo Kazooie have great Game Over screens. Sexy Grunty is so bonerific.Though, I always thought that it was weird that you saw them just by quiting the game.

I enjoyed all of the death cinematics in Resident Evil 4, followed by the cheesy "You Are Dead" writing in blood.

Deffo Majora's Mask, and I've never even gotten it. Just the thought of such a vibrant, bustling world being erased from existence proved to be such a potential guilt trip, that any notion of failure was out of the question.

...maybe it was too much for a ten year-old to grasp.
