3DS Water Damage HELP!

Postby MasterGoomba » 20 Jun 2012 12:02

So my 3DS fell into a mop bucket (don't ask how) and now it won't turn on but the charging light is on. It's the Zelda edition one, is they anything I can do or should I just send it to Nintendo. Will they send back the same one or give me another, what will I lose. PLEASE HELP! :(

You shouldn't have tried to turn it on :( even if you dry the outside.

When you drop a device in water you should take out off the cover and battery ASAP, then stick it in uncooked, hard rice, ASAP for at least a day.

you could still try it, see what happens. But if it's still under warranty, I recommend doing the above, then try sending it to them without saying you dropped it in water. Just that "it won't turn on" :)

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure that Nintendo would cover it. Sure you could tell them that it just won't turn on, but when you send it in to them they have ways of checking if the system had water damage done to it.

That really sucks though. Like TheLegendOfCap said, it's always best to remove the battery as soon as something like that happens and let it dry. You could still try doing that, but I don't know if it will do you any good at this point. If all else fails try getting in touch with Nintendo, but, like previously said, do not mention that the system had water damage.

Surprisingly my mom sugggested this when my niece dropped my Wiimote in a bucket of mop water. (*....not joking here *) And it worked! My Wiimote was working again. :D

Its best that you send it to Nintendo, but what I wanna know is why not mention that it fell in a mop bucket. You didn't mean to drop it in, so shouldn't the warranty still cover such unintended mishaps? :?

Normally warranties don't cover 3 things... water damage, theft, or loss. So mentioning that there is water damage would most likely lead to them saying "Oh, I'm sorry, but that's not covered"

Now I'm not 100% certain that Nintendo doesn't cover water damage. I've never looked into it, but I'd be really surprised if they did.

Nintendo should only cover damage incurred from normal use. Dropping the 3DS in a bucket of water, no mater how unintentional, is still outside of normal use.

Ack--sorry, MasterGoomba. :(
I was actually thinking about this the other day--what to do if that happened. Take solace in the fact that this thread has helped me and others know what to do in such an emergency (thanks to LegendofCap's advice).

if nothing else, you've opened up two big opportunities:

for nintendo - underwater-capable systems (zora scale edition, anyone?)

for you - diving lessons to learn how to play underwater.

it's win all around.

but until then, good luck!

I know this has worked for my sisters camera. She stuck in a sealed plastic bag full of rice and after a couple days the camera worked good as new. Can't hurt to try if you don't want to send it in for repairs.

they will charge you for water damage.

also, to fix this on your own MAYBE.

take out the battery. put the battery and the unit in a bowl of dry rice (not instant.) for a day. that should leech out the water and you might be alright.

This time last year my pet dog literally peed all over my 3DS. Tried many ways to save it but it would just turn off on its own and the screens were water damaged.

Contacted Nintendo and they charged me $70-80 for the repair. But they pay for the shipping and everything else. I was given a brand new 3DS with SOME of my data already stored on it. But I lost all my puzzles and hats. That sucked big time.

I believe they will give you the same treatment. Just pay for it this time (I understand if money is tight) and they will give you a brand new warranty in case something else goes wrong.

Thank you everyone for your help, :D I am really thankful for the graduation money I got. I have really bad luck with electronics, Mom washed my GBA, lost HeartGold, DSi charger broke, Wii got stolen, GameCube stuff got stolen too, and now this. :(

But I lost all my puzzles and hats. That sucked big time.

Good thing a majority of the Miis were from MK7 and my SD card survived. Thank Arceus!

I want to help, but I can't understand what your problem is. You can't transfer your Eshop games? Or you can't turn on the 3D?

You might want to find a local technican (could void your warranty) first. Don't try to fix it by yourself. Pay a professional. That is at least for the 3d depth slider.

As for your eShop games... As far as I know, games are tied to our eShop account. If so, should be possilble to re-download using a different memory card?
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

already had a help topic for this. please make sure you search AND browse at least a little bit before starting a new thread.

best answer:
go back in time and not get it wet.

second best answer:
buy a new one or pay for the repair. call nintendo service.

third best answer:
google.

As crazy as this may sound, I used this same technique with my phone when i left it outside in a thunderstorm. My phone still works fine. I would recommend 3 days just to be sure.
