I remember seeing a thread about this before the rumor hit the news feed, but I can't find it anymore, so, without further adu...



This thing was apparently on the Canadian Best Buy site, and is rumored to be announced on December 7, 2012. Price? I'm not sure. Release date? Still not sure.

I think it's stupid to announce this now, however.

It's probably a way to make a quick buck for people who don't have the system yet/sold it earlier.
Just like the Gamecube, as soon as the Wii will become "retro" and has a cheap price (I suppose this could be $99), gamers will want to pick one to play some of the "gems" on the system that they missed, like DKC, the galaxies, Zelda SS and Xenoblade.

But yeah, they should've lanched it after the holiday season, that doesn't make much sense with WiiU launch.

Oh my god, it's so cute! I might end up buying this for a homebrew machine and let my 2 'big' Wii units rest. Do wish the big N would put HDMI support for this console though. The games look so much better that way.

I'm conflicted about this. This would be perfect for me because my Wii disc drive failed about 3 months ago and I decided to forego the $90 charge to fix it and put that money toward a Wii U (which I did purchase). However, I no longer need my Wii because I transferred everything over to the Wii U and will just use that to play Wii games. The only reason I would need my Wii is to play GameCube games, which, of course, this Wii mini won't support. Basically, I just need a mini GameCube machine. And now, as I'm writing this, I'm trying to figure out just who the hell this Wii mini is for.

It's cute, it looks like a Roku box but what can I do with it?

Just read that. Absolutely no internet connectivity...no backwards compatibility...no frills case...This thing probably costs $20 to make. Must be trying to shore up their profit margins.

It's not bad I guess if you just want to play the exclusives, but this certainly isn't any good as a replacement for an old Wii. I can also see this causing even more confusion with the Wii brand.

Honestly, it looks really cool. I'd get it if there was a good reason to.

But since it doesn't play Gamecube games, I don't know how much use it could be.

Could you use it for Homebrew? Best I got. That'd be cool. Haha.

This is honestly the worst time to release this though. Not because it couldn't sell to *someone*, but because we already have enough problems with people thinking the Wii U is a Wii, now we'll have people be even more confused with Wii Mini. They should have held off. This is a terrible time for this.

Oh well. Whatever Nintendo. Continue doing stuff like this and wondering why people are like "What are you doing?"

Wow, I think it looks very cool. It almost make me want to get one. My Wii is from launch, so I'm worried the disk drive could give out sometime, but I don't know if I want to get this or not. The problem is I can't play Smash Bros Brawl, or Mario Kart Wii with my Gamecube controller on it. I think I heard you can't use the WiiU Pro controller with Wii games, playing either of those games on Wii remotes is unacceptable to me.

It's exclusive to Canada and is a low price point entry to the Wii system. It does not have an internet connection or GC support.

Sure you can whine, but you are not the target audience. Most people that wanted a Wii already own one and if you need to have internet, you can buy the standard version.

The 'not having internet' thing is the most baffling part of it for me. No GCN support was expected since ALL of the new Wiis don't have GCN support, but I would have thought it would have internet since it was the first console to announce having any kind of VC support, even before 360 started mentioning its own XBLA stuff.

I mean... as a cheap method of gaming, it makes sense. If you couldn't afford a PS3, you could always buy a PS2 and a crap ton of cheap games, and just wig out playing anything and everything you missed that gen. Maybe Wii doesn't have QUITE as much of an extensive library of quality games, but it does have quite a bit of good games(even some surprisingly good 3rd Party gems). So I could see someone saying 'well, I don't care about playing online, I just want a quick-setup gaming system and a ton of cheap games to play on it', and for that I think it'd be more than fine. It's almost like the NES in terms of reliability and playability...just set it up and put a game in and you're done, nothing else to set up or mess with. But with such a backlog of potential VC and Wiiware sales they could have made if it had an internet connection, it just seems weird. *shrug*

It looks very retro, and I'm not sure that is a good thing. Also, $99 seems like a bit much. They were just selling Wii consoles for $89 on Black Friday, so anything higher might not sit too well with people. They should price the normal Wii at $99 and the Wii Mini to $79 or something. No internet capabilities is very odd.
