G4 Best of 2012 Bracket

So I don't know if this has been posted on GoNintendo or not, but G4 has once again launched its Best Game of... bracket. If you remember last year, Skyward Sword ended up winning it all much to the chagrin of the editors of G4 itself. Clearly some silly little Wii game shouldn't be allowed to beat the HD wunderkind, so this year they made sure it wouldn't happen by not nominated one of the best reviewed games of the year.

Xenoblade Chronicles is nowhere to be found in the brackets. It's also nowhere to be found in last year's (where it might have appeared due to its release in the UK). The only Nintendo exclusive titles to appear on the list were NSMBU, ZombiU and Kingdom Hearts 3D. All three lost in the first round (voting in the first round started before gamers had a chance to actually play two of those games).

Clearly Xenoblade had to be excluded to make room for such greats as Epic Mickey 2.

The only games left to vote for that appear on Nintendo consoles are Assassin's Creed 3 and Darksiders 2.

What difference does it make anyway. If Xenogears had won it would have just been laughed at in a one minute or less video clip, with a couple of jabs at angry Nintendo fanboys. They can't have their last game of the year award fouled up by a kiddie Nintendo game after all. It's safe to say at this point (or rather at some point in the distant past) that G4 is a complete joke. I say good riddance when they cut all video game related programming. And I sincerely hope no other video game related site, or otherwise will hire the likes of Morgan Webb.

G4 became a total joke to me when they did their review of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Not because of the score, but because it read like a fact sheet provided by Nintendo. No personal injection at all.

Considering it's actually a 2010 game, it shouldn't even count, anyway. It's NOT a 2012 game. I don't care if *we* got it this year, it's 2 years old.

But that's just me. And I love that game.

Its really hard to believe that G4 is ending with its gaming programs, but anyone with a bran could've saw this coming, thats why most of the regulars got out ahead of time. Still, Ive never taken any G4 related awards seriously, so ehh. I actually think there awards are as relevant as the VGAs.

Disregarding G4 ('cause they're G4) I personally think Persona 4 Golden was the top for me. It seems like just a port, but it is so much more. Sure I wish they used the new character more often, but the parts she got to play were good enough for me.

The added parts to the game really feel like they were more like missing parts to the series. Maybe one or two of them are unneeded fluff, but the rest are really well done. And that added extra epilogue they added... nice. It really gives that 'ended' feeling to it.

Just had to get that out after completing it.

That's interesting, that game was actually the subject of a study by a University because of it's abnormal ability to bring up emotional responses in individuals. I guess it's understandable if you went through Shizune's arc though.

Katawa Shoujo is good for a free game made by essentially a random group of people. But being a VN fan... it is not the best, it is simply the bar that was set a long time ago. Umineko, while its art has its problems, is an amazing example of how good some VN's can get.

But that is the key point I'll point out. This is a VN NOT a game. VN's are not necessarily for gamers, and games are not necessarily for VN fans. It's like movies and books, they each have their own fans and their own qualities, you can't compare these things when they're vastly different for people.

As to ways Katawa Shoujo lacks... well sick protag. has been done way too many times. The background voices are in English, despite the obvious attempt to make it take place in Japan with Japanese signs and everything. Not to mention the drama that takes up most of the series... yeah I know most (if not all) VN's have drama, but at least in the beginning most are happy or at least interesting to get in, while KS has the drama right at the beginning, really killing the urge to move on... I felt like crap for most of the game. A lack of voicing was also a down mark, now I don't think voicing is key, but for games like this most have voicing, I also understand that it wasn't a feasible choice to voice it, as it being a group of amateurs.

While I agree with you on some points why is a depressing mood a negative, I personally think that if the team is talented enough that they can characterize a person to the point that you can feel "like crap" over what happened to them in the first 5 minutes, then it's a serious plus.
