as for lakster's idea, there's no need to use both tv and wii u gamepad. just the gamepad would suffice. turn it lengthwise and make the whole gamepad screen display both ds screens.

Since the GBA was so popular and people had a lot of games for it, the GameBoy player made sense at the time, because people would already have the soft for it (there was different Gamecube + GBPlayer in Japan).
Now, it doesn't make much sense to make it as an accessory, especially since the 3DS can play DS games. As for download solutions, we might see that, but I'm not sure Nintendo will bother. They've yet to bring the GBA virtual console to the 3DS

If they were to make one I think it'd only be for games on the original DS, not the 3DS, since it's too new and they wouldn't want some $60 or $70 add on cannibalizing the sales (plus, remember the Super GB couldn't play GBC games).
Yeah I know the GB Player on the Gamecube came out only after the GBA had been on the market for two years, but I feel I need to emphasize that the situation was different (Nintendo's home console sales at the time were rather poor, while their handheld sales [especially since they had no competition at the time] were through the roof).
