Whats the point of unboxing videos?

Unboxing videos used to have a valid geeky point to them. They were often made by technology insiders who got their hands on product with a ton of hype behind them before launch. Then, they would record the unboxing of the product so everyone at home could get that "opening a brand new toy" feeling before they actually went out to buy it. Now.. Meh, I rarely see an unboxing video by anyone before a products release.. Then, one day after release OVER 9000 Youtube videos of unboxings appear..

I'm just annoyed that they have a bundle that comes with a Wii U Pro controller :/ lol
