Pokepark 2: Is it worth it?

Postby nGen » 26 Dec 2012 18:23

So Pokepark 2 is $20 at Best Buy today. My question to those who have bought it: is the game worth it? Is it a fun game? Do I have to be a fan of the first Pokepark or does it not matter?

I had fun with it. Its really meant for big pokemon fans though, since most of the enjoyment out of the PokePark games is running around and talking and playing events with all the different pokemon in the game.

I know this is days late, but:

1. Yes, it's totally worth $20. I got it as a gift, but it is almost everything I ever wanted from a Pokemon spin-off.
2. Yes. It's literally just an adventure game where you run around and do minor sidequests, some side scrolling sections, a few short minigames and befriending Pokemon (chasing them, hide-and-seek or battling them) and so on.
3. Doesn't matter if you played the first game. As for being a fan, it only matters if you like the main game. There are less (only 3) full minigames this time around. You also have new characters to play which opens up some variety in how you play. Additionally, like I said, there are small side-scrolling sections which are cool.

Anyway, I loved the original, so the 2nd game was amazing to me. Haha.

Y'know, I'm wondering if it is worth it too. I've played the first one, but it was way to simple for my liking and very repetitive and now I don't want to spend the money to buy the sequel if it's the same. Odds are I'll pick it up in the years to come, however, only for a small price like $15 or less.

As far as being repetitive, depends. You don't do the minigames anymore (only 3, and they're all different), but you still have Chase, Battle and Hide-n-Seek with the Pokemon to befriend them, which is more or less the same as in the original.

The main game is still running around, talking, doing a puzzle (like talking to someone, befriending someone or carrying something) and stuff, but there are some new things. Some things involve battles with interesting rules. For example, I had to fight Sawk and Throh, but you need to beat Sawk specifically, while Throh is in your way. And there are fights where a bunch of smaller Pokemon are in the way while you attack a stronger one. Or in one instance, attack a cake. Or run through a hoard of Pokemon to get to the boss or whatever.

And there are the sidescrolling parts, though not many and they're short.

Also consider that you can play Oshawott (who can swim) and Snivy (who can double jump) which adds some variety if nothing else.

But if you didn't like the original, probably not going to really enjoy the 2nd one.

I liked both because they felt like N64 Pokemon games I never got, but always wanted.

Well, if you enjoy cute fun Pokémon adventures, I'd say you can give it a try. I found it fun, though a bit repetitive at times... I got it for free as a game reviewer though, but for that price I'd have bought it (then again it's way cheaper than what games go for around here so I'm not sure how cheaper this would be in your prices)
You don't need to have played the first one, this one has a completely different plot. I started with this one.
