Transfer Help!

My original Wii has stopped using SD cards for three years now and it will never accept an SD Card with a "device inserted in the SD Card Not Recognized" error messages and tried many brands, formatting and whatnot. I want to transfer all the shop data to my Wii U because i fear my Wii may break in the near future or become non[transferable. Also I wanted to try the transfer with just an Sd Card in the Wii U but the Shop Channel is apparently not working today

Pay to repair your wii's SD card slot, there is nothing else you can do to transfer your things.

Formatting doesn¿t erase your shop history. I had to format once and I was surprised I could redownload all my games. Of course all the saves are lost, but that's another thing.

yeah, his shop games are still there.. i've had to format too(nintendo told me to because of corrupt files).. id call nintendo and setup sending it in... tell them your situation.. they might have you send both systems in and do the transfer for you.. but id assume it will cost the $75 charge to fix the wii.
just curious, how many games do you have on the system?

Yeah, I'm not sure who is trying to charge you $190, cause Nintendo's standard fix anything for Wii charge is usually just $75.Good thing about having Nintendo fix it, though, is that it will also have a new 1-year warranty. Keep in mind your account will transfer to Wii U, but any new games you download will not register on Club Nintendo for coins if you happen to be a member. But, yes, by formatting you have lost all your saves that were on the system itself, so you won't be transferring anything other than your downloaded games now.

Here's a blurb from Nintendo's Support Page. It's actually from the page about transferring multiple Wiis to one Wii U but it's the only place in the support pages that I could find that, I think, answers your question.

Download content and save data for software titles that exist on both systems will be replaced by the save data and add-on content from the last system to perform the transfer

Basically, it's going to overwrite your Mario Kart data. If I were in your situation here's what I would do: I'd move the Mario Kart data on the Wii U onto an SD card for backup. Then on your original Wii, I'd just delete the Mario Kart data (since it sounds like you want the version on your Wii U and not this original save). Then I'd perform the transfer from the Wii to the Wii U. But I'd also use a different SD card than the one used for the Mario Kart save backup. In this scenario, I don't think the Mario Kart data on the Wii U would be lost (or overwritten) because your data is just being combined and the Wii U doesn't know that you had a Mario Kart save on the Wii, but I'd make the backup just to be safe.

@Popple Sweet, thanks! I honestly wished that they would let you just choose what you wanted to transfer over, but oh well. Anyway, thanks for the tip. Didn't know this system transfer could be so confusing at times.

Alternately, if you don't have a second SD card handy, you can copy the data to your computer and then back to the SD card after the transfer to manually move it back to the Wii U.

Wait. NWFC saves are unlocked on Wii U's Wii Menu? Because NWFC saves are locked on the original Wii. You couldn't move them to SD cards to back them up...Not without homebrew anyways...

Oh this thread is still going? I was able to recover all my data, Ive been waiting two weeks and hopefully by next week, Ill get my Wii back fixed so I can transfer it to Wii U. I brought in a friends Wii, so they wouldn't charge me!
