Wii U - The "everything" Info Thread

Mine arrived today - a day early Took me approx. 1 hour 40 mins to do the update including about a dozen disconnects whilst downloading.

The really disappointing thing is that my box didn't contain a copy of NintendoLand. Apparently I'm not the only one who has had this happen - Some Euro Wii U Buyers Reporting A Distinct Lack Of Nintendo Land In Their Premium Bundle

I got in touch with Amazon UK and they were not aware of the problem and tried to tell me to wait 2 days for them to investigate and that it might be a digital download! I assured them it was a physical copy and pointed to the official "whats in the box" page on Nintendo.com and eventually they agreed to give me £40 back (they sell the game for £42).

Sigh. Well at least I've got it now even though things haven't been too smooth. (actually by the time I was done with Amazon the update was done so at least it passed the time )

Also, that story about Nintendo Land not being in the box is worrisome.. and this super long update v_v
It's only 1GB. Sure it's big, but it shouldn't be that slow...

I changed my Nintendo Land Miiverse messages to display English only. That seemed to work, but then it did it again (thankfully after I completed that Donkey Kong game for the first time).

This happened before with my Wii, but it only ever happened with Sakura Wars...

Apparently, this is a problem with Miiverse integration in Nintendo Land, yes. Some people suspect it comes from character encoding (hence why people tells you to display english only, but somehow, it doesn't work). Hopefully, Nintendo releases an update soon. A fix (which isn't really convenient) is to keep your console disconnected from the Internet.

See, people keep assuming it's due to Miiverse since that's what all games have in common. However, the first time mine froze, I was just using the browser.

Hey guys, sorry to disrupt the happiness.

But whilst I am having fun [diluted fun, admittedly, due to my current issues] with NintendoLand, NMSBU and ZombiU - I have to yet to be able to connect my Wii U Deluxe to the internet.

I followed a certain Manual instruction:

1. Go into connection types, Hit "Manual Configuration"

2. Input your SSID

3. Input the correct security type, this is key.

4. Put your password in properly

5. For ip address "Do not auto obtain".

6. open up cmd in your computer, type in ipconfig

7. Now input that ip address but add 10 to the last number so "192.168.0.1" will be entered as "192.168.0.11"

8. Enter the rest of your info inside such as subnet mask and default gateway exactly as you see it in your ipconfig.

9. Now hit next, hit configure now for your DNS. When asked about DNS hit "Dont auto obtain".

10. For the first server put in 8.8.8.8

11. For the second server put in 8.8.4.4

12. Hit Next, when asked about a proxy hit no proxy

13. Leave mtu as the default

14. it should work, if not check the ip and that it is the internet ip + 10. Good luck

This connected it to my Virgin Media: Super Hub wifi router - but, even in the same room as said router, it doesn't connect to the internet. Leaving me without the Day 1 system update, Miiverse, NNid, eShop and the rest...

It's pissing me off hugely now. Did Nintendo user test wifi connectivity with the console at all before releasing it?!

If anyone else [in the UK, or abroad], is / was in the same boat, please reply!

@Chosenoneknuckles Do you have a DSL/Cable internet connection, or is that router just one of those "use this and it gives you internets"? That could be your problem.

All the devices in our house [PCs, Smartphones, Kodak Printer, off the top of my head] use this wifi router / hub, so to answer your question - yes[?].

We don't have an Ethernet adaptor / connector anywhere [and I wouldn't know where to begin even if we had]. Not sure if the Virgin Media: Super Hub has a USB slot for one actually...


EDIT: Did all the Pin / Push Code functions for my Virgin Media: Super Hub. Didn't work either.

Looks like I'll have to wait till the UK Wii U supply units come with the update pre-installed - and hope that these wifi issues are amended with it.

Worst Nintendo console launch by far [which is a shame, as its software line-up is among its best]!


Further Edit: Ordered that USB Ethernet adapter the Wii used. Hope it plugs well into my Super Hub...

If you can get it on the router, but just not to the internet from there, it sounds like an issue with the router itself. But I don't know, both routers I connected to (one entering the ssid myself, the other searching for it) had no issues.

Hey guys - my dad managed to get that Manual config to work [somehow], so I'm now updated [and about to cancel that USB Ethernet adapter order].

Just activating my NNid now, before updating my games and checking out the eShop!

I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that I finally got my Wii U back from Nintendo after having to have it repaired, and the day one update was already installed. The bad news is that I can't transfer my NNID. I clicked on "Link to an existing Nintendo Network ID" thinking I could link it to my ID on my brother's Wii U. After putting in my username, password and email, it said "this ID is already linked to an existing console." and gave me an error code. It said that you can only use the ID on the console it was created on. I called customer support, and after about a half hour of waiting for the guy to find out some information, he told me the same thing. He said not even deleting it from my brother's console would let me use it on mine, and told me the ability to transfer IDs would probably come around the update for Miiverse integration with PCs and smartphones. So it looks like I'm screwed out of my account name, and have to create another one just to use my Wii U.

But the question is when is that happening. They've been talking about that for roughly a year and we haven't heard anything about its' implementation since.

Just as a friendly reminder. The 3DS probably isn't going to get NNA access because that'd require a complete reworking of the 3DS' operating system. Maybe for a 3DSi it'd happen, but don't expect it to happen anytime soon, if at all.

My main thing is, I really wanted my username, which is why I decided to make it on his. I'm glad I did to, because when I just set up a new ID, all my alternatives to it were taken, so I know mine would have been taken by know. I know it's mine, I'll just have to play the waiting game to finally be able to use it. Hopefully that update comes sooner rather than later

I couldn't find a post about this but every now and then my home button will flash blue for a second and there is no notification or email so what does that mean?

In other topics, I saw an image of that 'Panorama' images feature elsewhere on the interwebs today. I wonder whatever happened to that? I was totally expecting it as a system built-in feature.

Did the Wii quietly drop anything like this before launch, lol.

They mention it in the electronic manual that you can access through the Home Menu on page 26.

Wii Airplane became Wii Sports Resort/Pilotwings. There was also some dropped attachment for the Classic Controller.

BTW, the Pro Controller is becoming RIDICULOUSLY hard to find.
