Gamestop not doing Midnight Launch for the WiiU

Got mine at Wal-mart since GameSTOP sold out. Actually have a second pre-order open at Best Buy, but I won't really need it now. Gonna see if a friend wants it or something.

I hope my local GameStop will be opening at midnight. When I pre-ordered it on Sept. 13 I had said "is it too early to ask if this will be getting a midnight launch?" and the manager there guaranteed they would be. But I guess it was indeed too early to ask.

The clerk at my Game Stop said that the wouldn't be an early opening for the Wii U launch because Nintendo wouldn't let them. Can anyone give me any more information on this?

that's what the manager at my gamestop told me, citing safety concerns since the wii u is a high-price and "highly sought-after" item, and since it would be dark at midnight, shoppers would be more vulnerable to unsavory acts should they occur. this gamestop does a midnight launch for everything (most recently the 3ds, zelda: oot3d, zelda: ss, pokemon b&w 2), so i am extra saddened at the news. it's clear across town, had i known two months ago that there would be no midnight launches for the wii u i would have just preordered at the store down the street from my house!!

edit: but my gamestop is opening early at 9am.

i just called my gamestop and asked about opening early on sunday and the guy said he wants to but hes waiting on a response from his boss. he wants to open at 8am instead of 10am.

on a side note, i asked how many wiius he was getting and he said that he had 40 but all were pre-orders.

This weekend, the manager at my GameStop said they are doing a midnight launch. When I pointed out that the assistant manager said they weren't when I asked the week before, he said it was because they were just given the OK.

It's BS... Nintendo -can't- say "Oh.. it's release day.. but you can't sell the systems yet."

Also the "High Price" excuse does not work either... as GS sold both Xbox360s and PS3s at Midnight on their launches... which were more expensive at the time.

What it boils down to... Is it's a Sunday *major worship day in the US* and they don't want to piss off the bible thumpers.

What the Hell are you talking about? Are you aware that you can get the Wii U at 8-10 AM on GameStop's opening time? Around the same time church ceremonies start?

Just got back from paying off my pre-order, and my GameStop isn't doing a midnight launch either. Also they're not opening until 10 AM either.... Good thing I'm taking Monday off of work I guess...

I had asked them if they were going to do a midnight release (I was also selling some games) for the WiiU. The guy said no just to come in at 11. While he was trying to get me to preorder anything I let slip (I really do not like speaking more than needed to these people) I was excited to play some Black Ops 2 come Sunday.

He then went on this big soap box on how the WiiU version doesnt have multiplayer that (Even tho I told him im getting a WiiU) I should just get it on the XBox if I want the real version.......

This is why I do not like talking to these people. I told him hes full of malarkey that the WiiU copy is the same game just no Elite and no Nuketown yet. He didnt care. I could sorta understand letting people know that there is a difference between the Wii version vs the PS3/360 ones, but comon really? Enough is enough.

i usually don't let the gamestop employees tell me anything. i think i have seen them enough that they know that i already know about the games im getting. although i usually sit back and listen to them bs other customers to try and make a sale but whatever, i guess its there job.

doesnt make sense he would push the 360 version over the wiiu one unless hes just a nintendo hater.

I agree with the employee that the 360 version is the 'real' version, so to speak. But him saying that the Wii U version has no multiplayer is just ignorant. Either that or he's told to try selling the 360 one at all costs.

Yeah, I don't really listen much to what they have to say, because I know more about the stuff than they do. Hell, just Sunday I had to explain to them that Paper Mario came out that day after they told me they didn't have it because it wasn't out yet, and of course they had a whole box of them sitting right behind him on the counter. I guess they figure since you are buying Nintendo products that you are not a "hardcore gamer" so they can tell you whatever they want.
I was at Fryes Electronics right after the Kinect came out and there was a man and his family looking to buy a Wii because they wanted to play Mario games, and overheard the salesperson trying his best to talk them into getting an X-Box 360 and Kinect. He was telling them that it is way cheaper to get the X-Box and Kinect (which I believe was $299 for the X-Box and $150 for Kinect at the time) because he would have to buy tons of accessories to even be able play the Wii.

Happened to me. When I was buying my Wii the Gamestop employee tried talking me out of a Wii. He said nothing interesting was going to be on it and that it was in standard definition. I rebutted with Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, etc. and he just thought I was stupid for getting a Wii, so after I picked it up I emailed Gamestop and complained about the horrible and unprofessional service. I never did see him again...
