Are you going to be able to transfer over all your data?

I was prepping my Wii today for data transfer and found I couldn't move all SD Card data to my Wii's main system memory, so that's a no for me. I'll be able to transfer all saves and all of my VC games, but not any Wiiware games. I'll just have to re-download those from the eShop (I trust all Wiiware games will be available on the eShop at launch, unlike the 3DS eShop where some DSiWare games are still unavailable even now [Earthworm Jim especially]). Glad my shop data will transfer, I don't want to lose the points I have (though I'm guessing now they'll convert into dollars?).

Do we know if the sd card has to be "fresh" when doing the system tranfer? Maybe you can still use the sd card with the games on it.

No idea, I think you have to use the "system data transfer channel" thing that'll be put out on day 1. I'm gonna use the 2 GB card from my original 3DS for that (I copied the data to my computer first and then formatted it). I can't get an external hard drive yet so I'll just rely on using an SD card for now.

Yes, we have to use the system transfer tool, what we need to know is if the tool will format the card and erase everything before and after the transfer. If it doesn't erase all your data when first inserting it on wiiu then you might be able to transfer everything, even the wiiware games that were stuck on your card.

the transfer details made it sound like it will erase all of the data from any old devices/cards used during the xfer process. you'd be wise to backup what you can on SD and then make a copy of it elsewhere.

If the 3DS is anything to go by it probably just needs to transfer the rights to the games on your SD card, but I wouldn't take a chance as there have been some people reporting errors and having their SD cards wiped prior to successful transfer. Most were able to just download everything, but some unfortunate people lost even the rights during the process so I'd copy everything on to your PC first.

I'm getting ready to pick up my Wii U tomorrow morning and I'm really excited. I am unsure about something with the transfer, and I'm wondering if anyone knows the answer. It doesn't really clarify in the guide Nintendo made, and the customer service rep didn't really know when I called them.

I have a ton of virtual console and wiiware games saved on both the system memory and an SD card. The guide says to put an sd card into the wii u, then after using the transfer option, it must be inserted into the wii console. After using the transfer app on the wii, it wipes the data from the wii, and transfers to the wii u. My wii is completely full, otherwise I would just transfer all the data saved on my SD card now. So, can I do this twice (once for the games saved on the wii itself, and a second time after I transfer the games on my sd card to the wii)? Do I need to buy another sd card? Or can I just transfer all the games on my wii to the sd card I have now?

I know that you can only do the transfer once and I THINK that the sd card has to hold everything at once and then be transffered to wii u. So that means no taking half the data first and then the other half next separately.

I just downloaded the transfer app on my Wii, and it says that the wii shop history will be transfered to the Wii U, so I suppose if it doesn't let me transfer the games on my SD card, I should be able to re-download them. Just to be safe, I backed up the SD card.

I feel the only reason that data from SSBB, MK Wii and MH Tri can't be transferred is due to their WiiConnect24 functionality which theoretically is now rendered useless due to the Wii U doesn't support such a function

This does not change the fact that this is absolutely absurd.

So then I have no motivation to start The Last Story (didn't play yet due to backlog of games) until I get a Wii U. Ugh. So mad.

This is also super annoying because it means I am going to lose save data in a few games that don't even support online play, just stupid crap like a leaderboard (Megaman 9, Darkside Chronicles and Sonic Colors).

Jeez Nintendo. Seriously?

EDIT: Now I am getting conflicting information. Someone over at GameFAQs said that Brawl's save data DID transfer over.

This is driving me nuts. I want to know if I should just abandon my online titles until I get a Wii U or not.

Yeah, when the FAQ said that, it was speculated that these games wouldn't transfer. Now, there are plenty of online enabled games on wii, all of them will stay on wii or it depends on each one? Super Mario Strikers has a split save file, will that one transfer?

Games like Brawl can't be saved to an SD card, so that would not be the issue if it didn't port over.

Can you confirm games like Brawl, Monster Hunter, Goldeneye, Last Story, Mario & Sonic @ Winter Olympics, Animal Crossing, Sonic Colors/Black Knight, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Megaman 9, Sin & Punishment 2 and so on can be moved to the Wii U?

To be honest, I was never going to get rid of my Wii in the first place, because I like it, and I never owned a GC so it also functions as my only GC player. So with that in mind, and seeing some of the issues/hassle with the transfer, I'm just not going to bother. My Wii will retain all of it's downloads and save files, and my Wii U will remain freed up for new Wii U exclusive save files and downloads. No fuss, no muss, especially considering they'll probably remain right near each other in the same room anyhow.

The main reason I want to move everything is to turn my Wii into a homebrew thing so I can play import games and mess with Brawl.

Yes, I see the Wii U can run homebrew too, but I'd rather my Wii U be untainted and turn the Wii into a Gamecube/Brawl hack thing (with a new save, unaffecting my file) and maybe get Fatal Frames.
