Attract Mode. Do you try to recreate it?

Postby HammerGalladeBro » 16 Jul 2012 15:28

This something I wonder sometimes when I'm watching Attract Modes on the games.

Usually, when you don't get past the title screen by pressing START or any other button, you see a game entering in Attract Mode, which is a small demo sequence, some of them are crappy, other are quite good.

Sometimes, I try to recreate them, I remember I used to try to reenact the Banjo-Kazooie one in Mumbo's Mountain.

And I always wonder if I'm the only one that tries to recreate the Attract Mode. So, do you recreate it as well?

You know there's more than just the Mumbo's Mountain one right? If you sit around long enough you'll see one for every world in the game.

Speaking of Banjo Kazooie, those two and DK 64 are the only games I can think of that have something like what you described, but I have tried to recreate the little movies in both of those games.

Not really. I sometimes leave the game running at the title screen to see the attract mode footage (like how in Mario Kart if you leave it running you see random races between various characters), but I've never felt like trying to mimic the attract mode footage in game.

I remember Super Metroid's attract mode actually hinted at hidden abilities, so i guess you were encouraged to try and recreate it...

If I see the Attract Mode leads to something good, I'll try to reenact it. Usually though, it's just normal footage and I ignore it.

So, sometimes I reenact the Attract Mode.

I guess it also depends on the game and the level/stage/whatever you're playing. For example, the other day I was watching a Yoshi's Cookie (SNES) Attract Mode that was on Round 10 Stage 7, the fourth to last stage, and I inmediatly thought "No way in hell I'll try that one".

Yeah, I know there's more than Mumbo's Mountain, but there's something about that one that made me like it more than the others, the others I tried as well are the Clanker's Cavern and Mad Monster Mansion ones.

Only time I can recall recreating one was actually pretty recently with Quake 1 (I got it and Quake 2 via Steam recently), because it's attract mode actually showed me things like explosive weapons are the only ways to kill zombies for good, and the nail gun is better to use on those weird flying enemies than the shotgun.

I think I do recall an attract mode for a much older game helping me out before, but I cannot recall what game it was.

I used to do it with Mario Kart 64. My brother was always Yoshi and I was always DK, and we'd play Choco Mountain like it was the demo. Sometimes I'd try to pretend to be as much like the CPU as possible (back then, MK CPUs were idiots LOL). Those were the days... I have no idea why I even did them ;)

Back then as a kid, I only tried to recreate the DK64 ones (all of them with the appropriate kong as depicted) for the lulz. :P

Super Mario World, Special World, Groovy. Every single time I play that stage, I attempt to recreate the title screen demo.

Alas, every single time I fail miserably one way or another. Fun times.
