Just like the 3DS demos, Wii U demos also have a limited amount of times that you're allowed to play them. As you can see, the FIFA 13 demo allows for 10 trials. We're not sure if the numbers will vary like they do with 3DS eShop demos.

First, Nintendo takes forever to offer demos in the first place, and now they want to limit the amount of times you play said demos to 10 times? WTF is going on with NCL that they want to control every facet of the industry? SHeesh....

Wii U eShop demos have play time restrictions

The number depends on the game, even on the 3DS.

Actually I thought this matters, but then I've never played a 3DS demo more than 3 times. So I couldn't care less about this.

if you need to more than 10 tries playing a demo then you probably should just buy the game or at least give it a rent.

@Roth
It changed from game to game on the 3DS. Final Fantasy Theatrhythm demo had unlimited uses.

Wii U eShop demos have play time restrictions

Postby MoldyClay » 01 Dec 2012 04:38

@mdluffy

Could also just be because someone can't afford the real game yet.

But you're right. There's really no reason to play a demo that many times, but the arbitrary play restriction seems absurd. Nobody else does this, and the Wii didn't even do it with the WiiWare demos.

I have personally only played most demos 3-4 times at the most. And 98% of the time, I only play the demo once and never touch it again.

The only exception for me was Denpa, and that was because the save transferred, so I kept playing like it was a real game.

A restriction for demos, especially for a game like fifa, makes sense.

The whole point of a demo is to demo the game and see if it's something you're going to like and then subsequently buy. Not to just play the demo over and over again. I've never played any game demo more than a couple times.

Wii U eShop demos have play time restrictions

OH MY GOD! I can't stand the hypocrisy in here, anymore!

Imagine Sony offering limited access to the demos and Nintendo offering unlimited access! Imagine how the comments would have been in that case....

God, please, rain some more brain! Some need it!

Limiting demos is retarded no matter what!

I never used the demos more than a few times

but, it's still very stupid having a limit yes.

No, it would still make sense if Sony limited them. Seriously, if you're playing the demo that much, just buy the damn game.

Limiting demo makes sense.
Usually, publishers don't want to make demos, because players who can't pay for the games (esp. younger players) will just keep playing the demo. That's what I did when I was a kid. With limited use, you can still play it, and see if you want to pay for the full game or not.

Also, the play time is decided by the publisher, that's the reason why they have different restrictions.

Wii U eShop demos have play time restrictions

Postby LegendofSantiago » 01 Dec 2012 10:49

The amount of play times offered is up to developers if it's anything like the 3ds one. There are unlimited plays for 3ds but I believe 30 is the default

It's up to the developer to limit demos, not Nintendo. The 3DS has seen unlimited usage demos or large amounts of plays.

Having limited demos is still better than no demos - usually only takes one play anyway to decide if it's worth a purchase.

Actually this is left up to the developer just like on PSN/XBLA.

Yes PSN/XBLA have demos with restrictions as well.

Many PSN/XBLA games use the time restrictions, where you have a few weeks to play the demo as much as possible before the demo is deactivated.

Many also have the play time restrictions like Wii U and 3DS.

This is all left up to the developers.

@ chased, anyone with some brains can see how brainless it would be to release a Fifa demo with no play restrictions.

Wii U eShop demos have play time restrictions

Postby Johnknight1 » 01 Dec 2012 13:36

I can't stand limited demos like that. It's easier to forget a game if you don't have the demo. I prefer the method where they give you one or two modes to play and limited characters/teams, quite honestly. Quite frankly, the other type of demo seems to easy to hack, and given the WiiU's 4 and 8 GB hard drive size, it seems like you couldn't download too many demos.

I understand this is probably up to the developers, but still, I prefer the old method. I really loved getting demos in magazines, but it looks like those days are over, too (that's what convinced me to get Sonic Adventure). :(

I thought this was going to be a problem on my 3ds but it never was cause at most I would play the demo 2 to 3 times.

and as long as you don't quit the demo you can play it over and over again.
