GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you feel about Nintendo Direct events?

Man, am I spent. Three Nintendo Direct events and a scattered sleep schedule because of them, it sure takes a toll. I'm off to get some much-needed rest, but I sure hope you enjoyed the coverage! See you in a few, short hours!

Nintendo is making a concerted effort to bring Nintendo fans around the world more information. That info pertains to games, apps, and basic hardware information. While Nintendo is usually a very quiet company, they've seemed to open up a lot more since they started their Nintendo Direct events.

I don't know about you, but I feel like Nintendo just can't stop pumping out Nintendo Direct events! Every few weeks we have another Nintendo Direct to look forward to. Sometimes Nintendo lets us know about these events a few days in advance. Other times, we learn about them just a few hours before they air. It can be hard to stay on-top of all these events!

On top of that, there are different Nintendo Direct events for each region! Sometimes we just get an event for Japan, but other times we get the triple threat of NA/EU/Japan. Throw all those into the same day and you can quickly fill up your head with all sorts of Nintendo news. It's certainly a lot to process in one day!

I thought I'd reach out to you guys and see what you thought of Nintendo's Nintendo Direct features in general. Do you watch them live as they air, or do you hang back and check them out when you have a more opportune moment? Do you find the events to provide info that you enjoy and are interested in, or are you baffled as to why Nintendo shows some of the content they do? What would you change about the presentations to make for a better overall experience? Leave a comment and fill us in.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you feel about Nint

Postby enigmaxtreme » 06 Dec 2012 06:06

Its not so much what I think about Nintendo Directs, its more what most fans perceive it as.

To put it simply, I LOVE Nintendo Directs, they are fun, simple and sometimes creative (Lego Iwata COME ON XD)

But when it comes to fans, every single stream I'm seeing in the chat continued pleading and screaming for certain games and or new announcements

Now granted we've had some shock surprises in the past , NSMB2 was announced here as well as Last Story's US release and lets not forget Bayonetta 2. But people have started to be convinced that Nimtendo Directs are in fact Nintendo keynotes ala E3.

Guys, seriously as much I love these Directs, does anyone honestly expect this place to be where we announce the new 3D Zelda and Marios. They are simple shows where Nintendo can be DIRECT with you

Just for clarification, Bayonetta 2 was not at a Nintendo Direct, right? That was at the Nintendo Wii U press conference back in September.

I don't mind them, but I haven't really kept up with the last two of them, simply because I wasn't finding most of the "news" in them to be actual news anymore. It seemed like rehashed info without clarification really, especially in regards to the Wii U and issues about it before launch.

If they want to use them to communicate though, good. At least they are communicating, and trying to have fun while doing it.

I like them. It is never bad to have new info on their games and hardware, even if it is not megaton news. This one is on the low side but at least we got dates and times of some things.

I think Nintendo Direct is cool... but it often garners too much hype for what are usually quite small announcements. I also don't really like when they are re-treads of info/games we already know about. I usually dont watch them, I just read the list of details after the conference.

It is also upsetting to see Japan and Europe get so many more games than we get... And the region locking makes this even more painful.

But hey, at least Nintendo is being more open and direct with its fans!

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you feel about Nint

Postby Chosenoneknuckles » 06 Dec 2012 06:39

It's great stuff! :)

Kinda fed up of people crying for more footage and info on games they want for months - like Pikmin 3 - getting it and then moaning that it was just 'stuff they already knew about'.

Also those who treat it like E3's [for realz, not in the hype-for-fun of GAF], and keep expecting the reveal of the newest 3D Zelda, 3D Mario, Retro's game, Bayonetta 2 etc.

Considering how low-key Nintendo likes to be most of the year, would people really want to go back to the world without Directs every month or two? I doubt it.

This all said, I really wish they'd put the NSMB2 DLC content in its own Direct. It means nothing to me...

they should honestly, advertise it in miiverse, with a link that opens in the web browser and lets you watch directly on the wiiu (i watched the ustrteam feeds on the wiiu today).. and will it kill reggie send a 3ds swapnote BEFORE the direct takes place, and not AFTER

Nintendo Direct is incredibly annoying. I don't even watch them any more because I'll just get the info later. It used to be an event I would wait for and watch live but not now. Who cares(not me)

I really want to like Nintendo Direct. I think it's a good concept, dishing out info in little bits at a time. However, I always come away disappointed because they devote too much time to crap I don't care about. Google maps? Why are you showing me this when I want to see what Retro is working on? I guess it's no different than their last few E3 press events. Instead of one big heap of disappointment in summer, it's constant smaller doses of disappointment dished out year-round. I guess Nintendo simply isn't the company I want them to be anymore.

There nice, but I'm ready to to start lowering expectations. The number of megatons is few and far between.

But as stated above, Fire Emblem release date made it worth it.

i like them , the community brought that onto itself because the goal is clearly to show their messages without being distorted by the usual "nintendo is doomed" field . The same one that can make an individual truly believe that miyamoto just announced to him and no one else that he's going to retired . It's clear that nintendo never received the same amount of coverage for the last ten years , and it's also clear that any games intended for the ps360 on the other hand will receive massive positive coverage . So that's the way it is , but even this blog is not devoid of the chicken little syndrome

For the most part I like them but they tend to recycle what we already know with some added new morsels to it.

I still would really like to see the return of Space World though.

Right. Bayonetta 2 was announced twice on September 13th. First at a Japanese event called the Wii U Launch Presentation (often confused for a Nintendo Direct) and then shortly later in the American press conference you're referring to. Bayonetta 2 has never actually appeared at a Nintendo Direct.

I enjoy and appreciate them. Usually I just read the bullet points but last night after work I got to enjoy it on my Wii U. I was really impressed with how good Pikmin 3 looks.

I like Nintendo Direct events. It allows Nintendo to regularly give out news and information about their games and systems, which we pretty much never got previously. Better to have some news than no news, right?

Nintendo directs CAN be fun when Nintendo does something interesting in them. But alas they are very hit and miss. They're just sorta boring. That's why I just read the bulletins RMC posts about them instead of watching them.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you feel about Nint

Postby zyxion1 » 06 Dec 2012 11:42

It would be nice to see Regginator do some of the fun stuff Japan does like the Legos and Pikmin But I guess that's why he does the phrases; maybe that's his thing. As far as info is concerned I like hearing what Nintendo is doing as a whole. Some fans feel its a tease because Japan gets all the good stuff.

It would probably benefit them and everyone else if they just stuck to a regular schedule for Nintendo Directs Maybe monthly or something. It would allow more packed and relevant info and been regular enough that it kept fans interested. It would also allow more time for bigger announcements to be included as there's probably quite a fair amount goes on month to month.

I like the fact that they exist, lol.

Most of them are cluttered with information that's not all that important so they feel like wasted opportunities. If they removed that obstacle, we'd be left with funny, informative videos that come directly from the head honcho himself. Who wouldn't want that?!

I don't watch them very often--they usually air while I'm at work, so I just skim through the bullet points when I get a chance most of the time.

But they can be fun, and I do appreciate the effort on Nintendo's part to give us info this way!

I used to be really excited about them, because they typically only had them for HUGE announcements. Now, they use them for even smaller stuff, like even announcing a few dlc levels for a game. So I'm not so excited about them anymore. But I still like them, and I'm glad Nintendo's making a convenient and frequent system for announcing things.

I like 'em, they're good for getting out small bits of info.

What I dislike is that some people get their hopes up way too high and expect these little things to be the equivalent of an E3 press conference. I highly doubt they'd "waste" an E3-type megaton for a small informational video, so quit expecting a random Nintendo Direct in December will suddenly be where we'll get the first trailer for Retro's new game or something. Just go into it expecting some nice little details about the games we know are coming. I suppose the most one can expect is maybe the confirmation on the localization of a game or two, but nothing along the lines of "here's the first trailer for Super Mario Kingdom!"
