Pachter - Wii U software sales 'abysmal'

The following comes from Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter...

- says Wii U software sales came in $50 million below expectations
- slow software sales for DS and 3DS as well
- Wii U software sales "were abysmal, only Super Mario sold any meaningful units."
- "Wii U hardware was sold out, we checked, so it's a supply issue."

It is a shame the because of the lock-down on the NPD data -- all we have are analysts who will talk to share data.

Also, Nintendo sales are down. And Nintendo retail sales are down started selling digital on release day. Coincidence?

Below whose expectations?? His?? I work in the financial industry and I deal with analyst from all industries and most of them do not know their ass from a hole in the ground. They all come out and say all this bullcrap about a company or industry that they really have no experience with first hand. They think that just because they have their MBA and did all of these case studies in grad school that they know how a company should be operated. The problem is that they do not have any accountability - remember Meredith Whitney, the so-called analyst who got ONE right call on the Banks going bust during the financial crisis. She had made numerous calls after that ONE right call and none of them turned out to be true. Try not to let Pachter get to you - he is more of a publicity hound now then a true analyst.

What kind of sales does the guy expect, the amount of hardware was about what a little over 400k and he wants what? Every game to be at the same level? Not quite sure I understand his context at all because as of now, I don't see it ratio wise as abysmal in any way.

i got New SMB 2, Layton and Paper Mario from the e-shop for instance, also i heard that the wii u software ratio was twice as big of the original wii in 06, how can this be bad? for last but not least the Wii U IS sold out.

I think he needs some enlightenment. I just spent 300-350 Dollars just in the console!!! And you want me to get... how many games? This is absurd. Regular people are not made of money. Most got the system and one or two games and it was probably a hard choice. Does that mean anything? Of course not. Oh wait.... Was he expecting to sell MILLIONS of software for 425,000 consoles in a week!? I don't understand these analysts....

Well since most of the game were also digital downloads, how do we know more people did'nt opted for digital buys over retail? I'm pretty sure that Pachter doesn't have Nintendo's downloadable sales numbers, so how can he possibly know what's selling, or not. Sure retail sales could be lower than expected, but online sales could be more than expected.
