This would be interesting depending on one major thing: is Nintendo buying Sega or Sega Sammy?

Sega Sammy is HUGE in Japan and Korea and the company as a whole own a ton of things. If you've ever been to a Gameworks for instance- that's owned by Sega Sammy. If Nintendo were to purchase them, it would expand Nintendo a ton into a potentially dead market that could hurt the company overall. Last I saw places like Gameworks were not doing too well- however the Nintendo brand could also help out immensely as people will come to see a Nintendo themed restaurant.

If it is only Sega and solely focused on acquiring studios and IP to become exclusives, it makes sense as many Sega franchises are IPs that Nintendo don't have a hand in the genre. The entire back catalog alone would double Nintendo's exclusives. And it very likely would bring back a ton of old games into new ones.

I see Nintendo either going for Sega or Namco-Bandai. Namco-Bandai would expand their company and allow for a toy company to create their own toys instead of getting third parties to do so. Both companies are full of games Nintendo would need to add to their genres, and would create great exclusives for the system. So I can see either of those two being acquired or merged with.

Unless this is someone credible I've never heard about, this is about as reliable a piece of information as me saying that Square Enix is going to buy THQ. Plausible, but not something that should be taken seriously.

If true, Nintendo would become something like the Disney of the gaming industry (Disney bought Marvel a few years ago, and recently bought Lucas Films and Lucas Arts, specifically the rights to Indiana Jones and Star Wars). It wouldn't be a bad move by Nintendo to buy SEGA; they could definitely help SEGA continue to rebuild Sonic into one of biggest names in gaming (again).

I've always thought Nintendo should buy SEGA, I think it could do them a lot of good. With their recent troubles this seems like a good time to buy them. It would give Nintendo a ton of IP's. SEGA is sitting on a ton of great IP's that haven't been used in years I'd like to see come back. And imagine a Smash Bros after this happened, there would be a ton of possibilities. Plus, Nintendo is the only company I would trust could bring SEGA's games back to their former glory. There's also a lot of money to be made off SEGA's classic games on the Virtual Console. Sega also has a lot of "mature" titles that could help with Nintendo's image among "hardcore" gamers. What I hope doesn't happen is Microsoft buy them out and run the stuff even further into the ground like they did with RARE. I don't think Sony is really in the position to do something like this at the moment.

So many people in here keep mentioning Sega and Bayonetta 2. News flash guys, the developer of Bayonetta is Platinum games. Bayonetta 1 was published by Sega. So they have the rights to that game, but Nintendo is publishing Bayonetta 2. It has nothing to do with Sega. In fact Sega didn't want to publish Bayonetta 2 because they felt the first game didn't sell well.

Anyway, i think Nintendo buying Sega would be an awesome move. Much better than a company like Sony or Microsoft

You haven"t played Generations, have you? Anyways, I doubt this guy's credible, but if the rumors were true, than I guess I wouldn't mind that much, so long as they have a Disney/Marvel relationship. Plus, Nintendo could do wonders with a new Billy Hatcher. However, right now if Nintendo is going to buy any company, I'd hope that it's Rare. It would get HUGE brownie points from retro fans and we could finally see Banjo-Threeie. Toss in a few more jiggies, some sort of radar system for notes, all the Swap-n'-Go functionality and you'd have an amazing remake of an amazing game that deserves recognition. If Nintendo marketed it right, they could have a new million dollar franchise!

I've been wanting this for years! I feel like Nintendo could be a much better steward of Sega than Sammy. Wonder if there'd be a better chance of pulling some of the old Sega developers back into the fold as well... Imagine Miyamoto and Yuji Naka or Yu Suzuki working on a game together! Granted, it may not work out having two big name developers working together on a single project... but imagine what they could do together.

I've been saying that Nintendo should buy Sega ever since Sega's restructuring. I think it would be great for both companies. With Nintendo's watchful eye, we would have consistently good Sonic games. Not to mention that Nintendo would have a monopoly on a good chunk of video gaming's most revered IPs. I don't know HipHopGamer enough to know how reliable his information is. I guess we'll have to just wait it out, but it sure would be interesting if it did happen.

There's nothing I'd rather see happen in this industry than the joining of my favorite game company and my former second favorite game company. They have a lot of great IP that would fit in just perfectly at Nintendo.

I doubt Sammy would sell even if Nintendo wanted to buy. Man, they sure botched the handling of that company.

Sega Namco would have probably been pretty good too...

this would be cool. We could finally see Guardian Heroes, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon, Virtual On, Virtua Fighter and other non-Nintendo console franchises show up on Nintendo consoles.

But it doesnt seem realistic, at all.
