Level-5 fires back at SEGA, claims they did not violate patents

Inazuma Eleven does not violate Sega's patents. As a result of examining these discrepancies, we've concluded that there is no patent violation. While Inazuma Eleven does not violate Sega's patent, we do recognize that Sega's lawsuit could restrict choices in gaming from here on out as well as hindering the growth of the game industry." - Level-5 statement

So much for any Level-5/SEGA collaborations in the future. I really can't wrap my head around why SEGA has gone after this case now, after so many games/years.

Keep in mind Kotaku's article states the game was made in 2008, with the patent in 2009.

Why would you burn bridges for yourself? Even if u had a case its still a gamble. What if they dont win? Do they have money to waste? And why would u hold back the gaming.industry with such a patent? AND WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO?? so many questions

I guess SEGA is that close to being finished. This is what they get for not unmodernizing and rebooting Sonic like everyone with half -a-brain requested. Good riddance I say. Now for Crapcom ;)

Seriously, SEGA... sometimes you have to realize when you lost this one.

Shame Sega had to stoop this low. I had them pegged as one of the few good companies left in the game industry. Now we're left with... Valve? Ubisoft hasn't done anything embarrassing lately I think.

Sega needs money thats why, all the cameos and guest appearances would suggest this as well.

Damn, I was hoping for a Layton and Rhythm Thief crossover someday in the future.

But I thought Sonic was the fastest thing alive?

Looks like Sonic got into a fight with the law and the law won.

FFS, why don't Ninty just get it over with and buy them already??

Then we can all enjoy a rebooted Panzer Dragoon, Golden Axe (done properly this time), Streets of Rage, Afterburner and so many, many more titles that deserved a better revival or at least better treatment. I'd love to see what Nintendo could do with Wii U and House of the Dead too. And Shenmue. Oh crap, the list of potential awesomeness is just too large. SEGA as a second party developer - it just makes sense to me.
