SugarDVD working on support for Wii U

For those that aren't familiar with it, SugarDVD is a service that provides 'adult entertainment' to multimedia devices. There's already a SugarDVD app available for 360 and PS3, but Wii U won't be left out. A rep for SugarDVD confirmed that a Wii U app is in the works. No word on release at this time.

People still use DVDs?

Cant speak for anyone else, but in my particular case, dvds are still the standard here and will remain as such for a long time (much cheaper and reliable than streaming, and obviously we have very few services available here)

You know it costs $20 per unit for the DVD codec/license.
it still costs over $50 per unit for the Blu-ray codec/license.

So in the end it would cost Nintendo over $70 per Wii U to give you both DVD & Blu-ray features.

I personal don't see a reason why anyone would want to pay the extra price when nearly everyone owns a DVD and/or Blu-ray player

I know I wouldn't want to pay more money for the WiiU to be able to watch blu ray and dvds.

All the people that I know use USB sticks to watch movies nowadays anyway. Every new TV has a video player and a USB port to play movies on.

Think he meant as opposed to Blu-Ray, not streaming.

it's less than 5$ for a dvd, it's less than 10 for blu ray.

For me, it's really just convenience. Like I mentioned earlier, I don't like having to many things plugged in at once. Right now, I'm playing games on my Wii U, then decide I want to watch a movie... I have to unplug the Wii U and plug in the PS3. Seeing that most movies I get nowadays are Blu-Ray / DVD Combo Packs, just the DVD functionality would have been fine for me.

Use the power of input switches! Had a composite cable switcher for Wii and DVD player before getting an HDTV. Now getting an HDMI switch for my laptop, Wii U, and BD player. My TV only has two HDMI ports. Switches aren't even that expensive.

Perhaps I should have mentioned, I'm talking more about power cords and trying not to have to many plugged in at once, so a switcher isn't going to do me any good unfortunately.

Actually it costs $2 for the barebones codec to play digital movie files.
This is the price all the PC makers pay to build a PC without a DVD drive.

The remaining $13-$18 cover the following:
*DVD disc drive
*DVD logo
*The royalties to the 4 companies to the patent holders.
*Full DVD codec

The $9.50 just gives companies the license to the barebones codec to play a digital file.
The rest of the price goes to:
*Royalties to the patent holders
*The price for the physical Blu-ray drive
*The price to use the Blu-ray logo
*The price for the full Blu-ray codecs.

The point is, there is no need to charge the majority of the users for a feature that only a whiny minority will use (if that).

You know it costs Microsoft $450 million last year just to license the full DVD codecs for Windows 7, Vista, and XP.

Windows 8 only uses barebones codec to save Microsoft money.

Ah. Well, at the very least a switch may cut down on time. You'd just be dealing with the power cords instead of fiddling with the input cables.

Also, since most devices would be off when not in use, they shouldn't be drawing too much power. It would just come down to how many power ports you have. Or just get a good surge protector.

well, several adult steaming sites already work on the wii u browser for free. in fact, ****hub works much better on my wii u than on my PC.
