I know nobody cares about this right now, but has anyone else noticed how they're not being called "Pokémon X Version" and "Pokémon Y Version"? Just X and Y. I like that.

In any case I DIED OF AWESOME

Nintendo announces Pokemon X and Y for 3DS - fully 3D Pokemo

Postby Chosenoneknuckles » 08 Jan 2013 07:28

YESSSS! Also my birthday month. :shock: :mrgreen:

X and Y, eh. Interesting name direction change - wonder what they symbolise?

I wonder if it might be based in Europe [not just France]?

Don't know which version I wanna get yet [which is a first]. Maybe the red deer...

The two things I hope from this [now we have 360 movement], is that there's an easier [non-minigame] way of transferring pokemon from your DS games to your 3DS one [via an app or and channel] for those of us with a single system. And Follow Pokemon return [with option to turn it off, for those of you with no souls].

"X and Y, eh. Interesting name direction change - wonder what they symbolise?"

I'm guessing Chromosomes.

I guess X and Y symbolize the legendary Pokémon that appear at the end of the video?

I think I'm suffering from a case of awesome poisoning. Looks like my body was indeed not ready for this.

And that deer legendary strangely resembles that diety from Princess Mononoke.

I mean, it represent the legendaries lol... You can see when the flying red legendary unfurls it turns into a very large red Y, and I assume it's the same for the blue deer with its antlers being part of the giant blue X

Yep. Notice how the flying legendary is Y shaped while the deer legendary is X shaped (or x themed).

But on the other hand... Pokemon X. That makes me think of two things: Lugia, and some webcomic I never read because I heard it was abandoned mid-story.

But pertaining a version to a specific gender? Yeah, can't see Nintendo wanting that backlash...

It'll be tied to the physical appearance of the two legendaries, as aforementioned probably.

Yeah, I agree that it won't be explicitly about gender, but that's the first thing that came to mind.

Secondly, I would like to announce I am going to have Fennekin as starter, and I shall nickname him/her Red-Ears. That is, unless his/her evolutions don't have red ears.

If you carefully watch the trailer, the new legendary pokèmon that will be on the game cover are shown. The new legendary bird resembles an X, with its tail and wings open while flying. The new legendary deer instead resembles a Y (in the trailer itself, look at the horns...). I believe they will be on the cover of the respective game (or maybe crossed, just like Black and White). X and Y are always together not only in cromosomes but also in mathematics and many other occasions, so it's a nice way of leaving the colors/gems that were used in previous titles. Really excited about these new games :D (and I stopped playing Pokèmon with Ruby.)

I only saw about a fifth of the actual presentation because it kept lagging on me so bad, but I AM SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW.

I'm glad I'm not the only that thought of chromosomes. Although I seriously doubt that the titles have anything to do with that. :lol:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the X and Y represent two of the three planes in a 3D coordinate system(X, Y, Z). Which mean this generations Platinum/Yellow companion game will be called Pokemon Z. Maybe?

Nintendo announces Pokemon X and Y for 3DS - fully 3D Pokemo

Postby Dusk » 08 Jan 2013 07:55

@Olinad

Lol you don't have to watch carefully to notice the two legendaries. They were quite obvious but yes the versions do represent them.. but you got them backwards.

X is supposed to be the deer. The x on the logo is even colored blue (which is also the same color as the pokemon) and has antlers added to it while the red one is the same color as the bird and has feathers to it.

Edit: Friend also pointed out that if you look at the deer closely you will notice there's a x in its eye. Crazy he caught that.

Yeah. Just saw this idea on GAF too - it's so Nintendo to name a game if it can relate to the system it's on.

X = Sky legendary = Height[?]
Y = Land legendary = Width[?]
Z = Sea legendary = Depth

Postby Dusk » 08 Jan 2013 08:01

@Chosenoneknuckles

Probably should be
X = Land legendary (since it is the deer and on a coordinate plane.. x is the horizontal) = Width

Y = Sky legendary (since it's the bird and on a coordinate plane.. y is the vertical) = Height

Z = Sea Legendary = Depth

Ah. Yeah, I couldn't remember which XY was which [hence my ? inclusions].

EDIT: Nevermind. Watched it back [don't see the 'X' as clear with the Land legendary, though].
