ZombiU is the game that keeps on taking...your life away. Ubisoft has confirmed that they have about 300,000 zombied former survivors from players trying to make it through the game. They also tease that they could do something with all those new zombies if they want to, but no word on what their plans are.

ZombiU now serving around 300,000 dead survivors

Postby Chased » 16 Jan 2013 23:53

Well...What I read is that the game sold severely below expectations...300,000 zombified survivors? Almost all of us lost at least 3 survivors...

Unless they link these survivors to just user accounts..Even so, 300,000? I don't know! It is expected to not sell much as it is a launch title, but...

I don't know...

Actually, it's not very clear if it's 300,000 players' survivors, or 300,000 palyers...at least not to me. If it is just survivors for each account stored, then I would imagine it hasn't sold that well (it took me 30+ survivors my first time). If it sold more than 300K as a launch title, I would think that's pretty good.

Also, let's give credit where credit is due here, the original piece that was already linked:
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/interview/33007

I'm all for the game getting press coverage, but the original source with this information was the original interview; not VGChartz or NintendoLife trying to create a new story out of another story.

According to VG the game has sold over 300k, these numbers would go on to support that number, the Zombi U mii community is the biggest 3rd party community on the console. I'm pretty sure its selling decently and will probably hit a million much like red steel. It deserves it and god do I hope they drop some DLC for this game.

ZombiU now serving around 300,000 dead survivors

Postby RAWi » 17 Jan 2013 00:56

Basically,

Not every person that has bought the game has connected their Wii U's to the Internet, therefore not sending their zombified-survivors.

@RAWi

I doubt there are people who bought a WiiU this early in its life span and didn't connect it to the Internet. Moms, kids and people that bought the original Wii because it was a hot topic, didn't buy the WiiU, at least not till now...The initial sales are always people that had been waiting for the system with excitement and read about it online, been playing much, etc...People like you and me...People like us are fully equipped for their gaming, or at least, have the basics, such as knowledge and internet connection...

Doubt it all you want, but there are people who have Wii Us and don't have it connected to online.

It could be a lot less or a lot more, VG sales data are very inaccurate.

This Nintendoland and NSMBU are the only games most retailers sell over here and they are just added to the Wii titles, in Europe it's part of the Deluxe package so many people got it with their consoles and that package sells out very quickly also it's doing alright on eShop, might do better now the demo is out there and people can see that some reviewers reviewed it wrongly, I swear some of them read like they expected Left 4 Dead instead of a survival horror game.

@Hadrian

Yeah! It's so silly since even Ubi said it was a slow paced survival horror where you have to be careful with use of ammo and other things. What part of that made them think it was a fast paced zombie splatter action game?

Don't survivors only come up when people play survival mode? I haven't even tried survival.

It appears the real problem with ZombiU for at least 2 of the earlier negative "reviews" (or "reviewers"), is that they didn't even finish the game. I have been blocked on Twitter by two ZombiU "reviewers" after asking them how many hours/survivors it took them to finish the game. They also don't reply to emails.

Sites can slap a score on a game, positive or negative, and not answer basic questions about their "reviews". Or, in one instance, when the questions are answered, they delete them from the "review" so future readers of that "review" don't know the information.

They also show up in regular mode. I think if you have Wii U "friends" with ZombiU, those are more likely to appear your game. Not really sure though, as reading the names can be a bit hard sometimes.

ZombiU now serving around 300,000 dead survivors

Postby thorn-rock » 17 Jan 2013 05:08

The way I see it it's more like 'We have 300,000 zombified players wandering in the world of Zombi U right now.'

Because I mean, zombies in this game don't just stay there. Not only do we have several zombified characters per players but also, other players kill them for loot. So it doesn't make much sense. I think what the guy meant is more like if you look at it right now we happen to have more than 300,000 player zombies and we could do something with them.

If you ask me it could be some kind of announcement for a special online event where they are going to use these zombies. But it's not sales related.

ZombiU now serving around 300,000 dead survivors

Postby varoennauraa » 17 Jan 2013 06:32

I wonder if the "zombify" feature was originally supposed to be used for making yourself as a survivor and later collect peoples faces to fill a city full of zombi players.

All it took for me was one play through on the recently released eShop demo and I was sold. Reviews be damned, this game is amazing. I can't recall being this scared playing a game since RE2.

300k out of around 2 million Wii U owners. Not a bad ratio.

I'm sure that when i first loaded up the game it asked me if i wanted to send game play data to ubisoft (yes/no), not everyone is going to say yes so you can't really judge sales from this figure as its only a sample of the player base.

I think they need to finish the game before they start dlc. Launch title or no this game is extremely buggy/glitchy. I hate patches taking up my memory but if any game I have played this gen needs patching then it is this one.

The real question should be are they making a profit off of it already? Sales numbers mean nothing if you never make any money.

I'd rather ZombiU sell a few hundred thousand units and actually turn a profit rather than sell several million and never manage to break even.

I wonder why this industry is so obsessed with being unhealthy and unprofitable.

Played the demo for this game, didn't enjoy it at all. It's missing sound effects, very clunky and slow controls, no wii remote support, visually unimpressive especially the lightning and textures. Looks like a launch Xbox 360 game and plays really poorly in my experience.
