EA says relationship with Nintendo is good, looking into Wii U for future support

Coming from a Polygon interview...

"We have a good partnership with Nintendo. We released four games on the platform over the last year and we're pretty proud of Need For Speed, and Madden, and FIFA and Mass Effect. We have guys that are looking at the Wii U in the studio system right now as an opportunity for the future, but we have no publicly announced Wii U games that we're going to release this fall. ...We have four titles out on the Wii U that are active right now, so looking at how things unfold, that's where our focus is right now." - EA president of labels Frank Gibeau

What a weird response to give. What exactly are they looking for? I guess that's their way of saying they want to wait for more people to buy the Wii U.

Bullshit EA. Luckily me I don't play any of your games. It's still a bad example for other 3rd Parties and bad rep for Nintendo though..
Finally got a PS3 sooo add me if you want. :)

By the way, they released four titles, if you happened to miss that point mentioned multiple times over.

You know, with all the DRM coming to X1 and supposedly coming to PS4 is it any surprise why EA doesn't want to support Wii U.

That is what makes their past comments so odd in light of these statements. Why have so many different people at EA publicly write off the system, classify it as "Gen 3, publicly state nothing is planned or in development for the system, and say it can't run Frostbite 2/3 well so it isn't getting any of their multiplatform games?

They went out of their way to state how incompatible the system was with EA's current direction, to put it nicely, to backtrack just a couple months later. I doubt anything has really changed but it's just baffling that a company would be so publicly childish in the first place.

EA has some issues right now. It also realizes that DRM may cause people to turn to he more consumer-friendly WiiU.
And that will lead to more sales which will make EA have to develop for it (as per requirements in licensing contracts.)

Year+ old ports, put out Trilogy before the Special Edition release, call it gen 3, have your devs shovel on it.

That's a good relationship?

EA says relationship with Nintendo is good, looking into Wii

Postby Maxram0 » 08 Jun 2013 19:17

maybe they are saying that due to the bad software sales on the WiiU outside of first party Publishing(Nintendo Land 1,090,000, New Super Mario Bros U 840,000).

The total sales of all 4 titles combined(Fifa 13, Mass effect 3, NFL 13, Need for Speed: Most Wanted U) is only 190,000, considering the hard work put in some of these titles, (Need for speed, I'm specifically looking at you), I'm not shocked they don't want to support the WiiU with DLC or next years annual sport releases, there isn't enough consumer base to warrant profit back from porting the extra content. edit: source http://www.vgchartz.com/platform/47/wii-u/ not the best place since it only show sales for the physical copies, but non the less, good enough

disclaimer: I'm not defending EA, it sucks that we don't get the games we want, but in the end, EA is a company out to make money, and from that angle, the WiiU isn't a profitable investment YET
